Need help in understanding karma. What is it used for? Why does it matter? Should I care about having any karma?

You should not concern yourself with Karma. It's at best an indication of post quality and community involvement, and at it's worst, it can be used to call people bad community members.
Karma has no affect on anything in the game, there's no benefits to high karma other than warm fuzzies.
Or does it ?

the only benefit from having karma is there is a separate exclusive forum if you are +1000 karma.
