Hey folks!

I'm making this forum to talk about the Trading Card Game, Magic: The Gathering!

If you aren't familiar with MTG or with TCGs in general, that's alright! If you want, stick around and read on! I wanna discuss various things like deck ideas, share stories and cards pulls and really just chat about Magic: The Gathering!

And if you find yourself going; "Hey, this sounds like something I wanna try!" Then good for you!

=============================================

So what is Magic?

Magic: The Gathering, commonly called MTG or just Magic for short, is a collectable Trading Card Game that has been around for over 30 years. It was created in 1993 and since then, has been growing and has a player base of about 50 million.

From collecting cards to official tournaments, there an amazing community of people with different niches to sit down at and watch. A bit of something for everyone!

============================================

As for me, I grew up with Magic: The Gathering, among other things like Dungeons and Dragons, Pokemon, and a whole slew of wonderful 90s and 2000s things! I've been playing Magic now for about 6-7 years, after my pops bought a bunch of cards and sat me down to play one day. Ever since, I've been really enthusiastic about Magic and have been building up a nice collection of cards! I play pretty casually and while my favorite format is Standard, I have been branching out to Commander and trying to learn about it! While I enjoy collecting the cards and playing the game, I'm curious to see what other people think and if there are any others who love the game to share ideas with or trade stories!

I can't wait to hear from you!

Cheers!

I've been playing Magic for over 20 years now and I've seen a lot of changes to the game in that time.

I pretty much play Legacy exclusively, and Lands is my jam. It's still a work in progress though...

I play magic with my step sons. I play EDH/commander pretty much exclusively. My favorite deck that i own is a partner commander artifact deck. It was the first. It has my favorite legendary creature. Her name is Vial smasher the fierce. She's a goblin that whenever I play my first spell on my turn. Let's me do that amount of damage randomly to a player.

I started playing MTG in 1994. Most of the people I played with then made Magic their D&D. Meaning that was basically all they did and all they talked about. I played more casually but I was pretty good at the deck building and other mechanics of the game. I did not pay attention to or believe the claims of cards having any value other than 1/12th or whatever if the price of a pack. So after the release of Homelands in 1995 I made a trade with a guy at my school. I traded my Mox Emerald (unlimited) for Eron the Relentless. I still maintain that it is a more useful card. Especially as I favored Red Decks at the time. Add one green mana or cast a 5/2 creature that can attack as soon as it's played with the low def. Offset by the fact he could be pulled out of your graveyard for 3 mana. A few months later I discovered Scrye Magazine. Which means I also discovered that I traded a card worth $120 for a card worth $0.05. I was so mad that I gave away all but one of my cards and quit playing completely. Started playing again on Xbox in 2014, then bought my first pack in 25+ years when Phyrexia All will be one released. Now I play a little but mostly collect the cards and sell any cards of value if I already have one. I still have that same Eron The Relentless Card it was the only card I did not give away in my anger. Today it is worth around $0.74. Even though TCG values  Mox Emerald today at $2,300 He sold it in 2015 for $1200. So he sold it for 1080% of its original value While Eron the Relentless is now worth 1400% of its original value. So who won that exchange huh? I'll tell you who. The guy I gave most of my cards to. There was an alpha edition Time Walk in that box. He still has it. Graded 8.5

This is absolutely amazing!!! There's probably a bunch of stories with those cards and sleeves!!

How do you like legacy? I'm curious to know about the other platforms that magic has. I typically play 60 card, but I got no idea whats legal to play for Standard v modern v legacy XD

What made you want to play lands?

Killik [2031870]

Hey there. I used to play a lot of modern, but these days I'm playing exclusively Commander.

I came across this card the other day (Demonic Lore), and am wondering if anyone knows any black or colorless cards that could flicker the enchantment until end of turn? There are easier ways to sacrifice it, but I'm interested in more long lasting effects. Drawing 6 cards on the first turn it's in play (albeit 3 would be at the end step), and 3 every turn after seems like it would be really good. As long as it comes back after the end step has started (flicker until end of turn) you won't lose life for your hand! Plent of ways for no max hand size too.

I recently just sold out of my physical MTG collection.

After the PPTQ scene died in Australia before Covid and the dieing PT scene for non-pro's I decided to ditch.

MTG is a beautiful game but it's unfortunately in my beliefs a game hamstrung by it's competitive scene.

Thanks!

I've been playing Legacy for about a decade now. I don't really pay much attention to other formats as there's just too much to keep up with - especially with how thick and fast new products are released now!

Lands has always been my answer to the question 'If you could play any deck, what would you make?' and a couple of years ago I managed to make a rather large trade with a friend who had the deck. From there, it's just been a slow and steady process of 'upgrading' the deck to be as pimped out as I can make it!

I've been fortunate enough have attended a load of old GPs in the pre-Covid times, and I've been to Magiccon Barcelona & Amsterdam which has helped massively when it comes to picking up and getting cards signed - I love trying to personalise my stuff. Even my playmat's been signed & altered by the artist. I just love a good flex! 😄

LEGACY LANDS

FOILED

AUTOGRAPHED

i, too, would like to swim in bathtubs of moneyyyy

...I'm way out of the loop though, we sold our collection last winter - just felt like we couldn't keep up with hasbro anymore. good times for years though! draft was my jam until the pandemic - later switched to commander.

I used to play way back in fifth edition, now I think creature cards are way to overpower.

Cards I liked back in the day

Argothian Wurm

hypnotic Specter

Creatures with shadow.

Aezur [1950769]

I've played on and off my whole life, but never got like competitively into it or anything.

A lot of peeps (myself included) have custom MtG cards as their profile picture cos some guy was hustling them for a while.

Xlblaze [3489669]

I too am a lover of the cardboard crack that is MTG
I actually play Legacy IRL with BeastieBoy and yes that lands deck is a sexy as it looks, if not more than in the photos.
I am a Level 2 Judge, previously owned a games store, and still sell cards online.

I tried other TCGs but nothing is as well rounded as Magic.

I do love Magic I was playing commander a while ago and my favorite deck was my token deck.

Had a few decks  had Rhys for token general, Uril the mist stalker for an enchantment deck, and made a scarecrow deck.

I do love silly and gimmicky type things. Don't like going for infinite combos and extra turns type stuff some of my friends did lol.

I always wanted to go goblins but the money was an issue even like 9-10 years ago when I was super active.

Looking at prices now been thinking it's a good time to cash out lol.

I started playing when 4th edition came out. I have a huge collection now. I like buying bulk cards off of eBay just to see what I can find. I look for lots of 4000 and pay anywhere from 45 to 70 dollars. The last bulk box I bought had 3 common Alpha cards in it. Not worth much but pretty cool find.

Ken_Ichinaka [3312334]

Started playing in 2005 for a few years. Came back a couple of years ago diving straight into Commander. My gown-up sons play and so does their grandad (he's 75).

We play together on Sundays over a few beers.

One of my sons usually win, I win now and then and the old man somehow, sometimes fumbles his way to a win.

Always fun.

Our best decks are; son #1 Krenko (goblins), son #2 Grismold (Voltron), Dad Dihada (legends) me Shorikai (artifacts) / The First Sliver (Slivers, obvs).

Dwell [2738097]

I mostly play legacy these days. Or kitchen table as I show my oldest son the ropes.

In legacy, I generally run mono black decks, pox or helm. I also have lands, and bant natural order sleeved up.

I play on arena as well, mostly timeless.

Never cared for EDH, and the increased UB cards I dislike, especially going into standard.

I strongly recommend premodern. to anyone interested in eternal magic. The scenes often coexist with the legacy player base, and it really feels like magic as Richard Garfield intendedTM. Almost always very proxy friendly.

JohnasBlackwood [2747096]

i´m a MtG player from Cuba. Love to build Commander decks altought they are shitty as f**k but they are my babies anyway. Love New Capenna, Kamigawa and Innistrad sets.

xXMysticRoseXx [3479200]

I felt that. Hasbro has been pumping out new stuff almost every week, it feels like lol. Shame to hear about your collection, but hopefully you were able to get a good return from it. And hey, maybe you'll get inspired to dive in again lol.

If I can ask, what were some of your favorite cards from your collection? Could be the art work, could be something the card did lol or maybe a memory you had attached to it?
