Is there an easier way to extract a lengthy text message conversation from an Android phone besides the tedious process of screen shooting? I was wondering if there was an app that might have that capability. TIA

if you are windows based you can probably go with the phone link, and just view the SMS from there and extract.
alternatively you could install something like pushbullet with the SMS feature enabled, i'm not 100% sure if that does backfill though but i think it does. i'm sure theres a bunch of other apps which can accomplish this too.
Its not a screenshot, not sure if thats specifically what you wanted but SMS Backup and Restore looks like the tool you need.

This app is capable of dumping conversations to PDF format with date and timestamps.
It also advertises a capacity to copy stuff to the clipboard but im not sure thats practical for longer conversations.

EDIT: Note that this solution doesnt work with MMS but you could possibly get those by using Google Messages.
Google messages allows you back up conversations and then view them in a web browser from your google account. Whether this works for existing conversations I don't know, I don't use it, but its google's unofficial sms app and its reliable and worth a mention.
