Are there any Torn 'straight edge' players? No drugs, no crimes, no weapons, you can only defend. Only healthy items allowed. Anything that is 'dangerous' or illegal in the real world you have to drop and you have to donate any proceeds that are made from illicit activity that is accidental to the church.

There are people who have started that kind of playstyle but I haven’t seen anyone make substantial progress playing that way. Basically not participating in half of the game makes it quite boring id imagine.

the only reason I'd personally consider straight edge is for SSL.

other than that, I don't know why you'd severly handicap yourself in a pvp game without multiple accounts unless you're going for a very particular type of build (cockynudist my beloved). sounds extremely boring and frustrating to me

Hah, weird; I've just been thinking about that earlier today.

Sorry for the wall of text, I got a bit too into thinking about this haha.

I'd love to see someone do it. It could be done with an admirable amount of patience. Or real money.

No attacks, no crimes, no OCs, no selling firearms, no selling crime-related materials, no using or selling drugs.

Cannabis is allowed, but with no crimes to do, at least you'd be able to brag about reaching 99,999 Nerve. As for crimes: Search For Cash is only technically a crime, right? But, it counts as Theft in the Stats, so that's up to you to decide if you want that mark on your saintly record.

You'd have to rely heavily on your job perks, hunting and travelling for income if you feel that buying DPs is a cop-out. You might land lucky with an Awareness find. Maybe you could play the Stock Market for extra cash and dividends, which you'd need to fund your Cans & FHCs for training (to defend yourself of course. Or maybe not. Sacrifice Stats for money, or money for Stats). I'd be willing to accept buying/selling standard or RW armour as a legal source of income. But only armour. No weapons.

I suppose simply existing as part of a Faction isn't a crime in and of itself (unless you consider that as guilt by association), but you couldn't really do anything in Wars, so if there was a Faction that would tolerate your maddeningly unhelpful playstyle, you'd have to make yourself useful in other ways, such as being a dedicated reviver during Wars at 75 E apiece (with no pay expected), or simply acting as an energy sink/retaliation target to the opponents by being as much of a Defense & Dex whore as possible, maybe even with a Parry or debuff weapon. Other than that, you could help keep the Armoury stocked with medical stuff, travel abroad to buy Smokes and Tear gas cheaply, saving the Faction some cash in the long run. Or work as a stat spy for free. Or, going back to Stocks, you could give a cut of your monthly dividends to the Faction, donate Medical Crates, EDvDs, etc, seeing as you're basically getting a free ride from your Faction perks without having much to contribute in return, haha. Other than that, you could go full landlord mode and make a bit of extra cash selling/renting properties you earn from Dividends to Factionmates?

In any case, unless you work at a TV Station, you will never earn Respect for your Faction, only cost it with each loss you take.

Talking of losses; since defense is allowed/inevitable, having firearms is okay, (pretend you're shooting rubber rounds, or going for crotch shots), and I personally would love to see a level 1 level holder who has crazy stats with a red 4% Smurf weapon (again, rubber rounds, right?).

Unless you want to go fists and kick, then do the self defense courses and work in a job that gives a boost to fist & kick damage. Do fists count as Clubbing weapons? Maybe put Merits into that if they do? If anyone does do the hand to hand combat only route, I'd accept ONE attack just to get the Hands Solo Honor.

Btw, petition to make Knuckle Dusters go ON your Fists, so they benefit from the 100% fist damage boosting education and job perks, pretty please?

On the topic of the now practically non-accessible Merits, you'd be missing out on a whole heap of them, but then again, you wouldn't need as many really; maybe just Bank Investment, Awareness and Education to see you through?

Perhaps you could beg Ched to add a 'Pacifist' route, and Merits for not attacking people for X amount of days if you need more. It'd be interesting to see what happens (or doesn't happen) to RWs as a result of the Merit chasers. Maybe it would be like the nuclear disarmament cutscene in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, where all the players of Torn agree to get alon-... nah never gonna happen.

For Mission Credits, you could still technically do some of the non-lethal Duke Missions when they pop up, such as the one where you send someone a message with a specific word or phrase in it, or a parcel with something useless in it, and I'm sure there are some others that don't require attacks. I forget if the tutorial Missions that have you attack dummies count as attacks though. Having the LoSqualo Stock will give you a little credit boost. That'll let you save up for Books, weapon mods like the tactical lights to reduce enemy accuracy & stealth, etc.

Probably take you forever, like, but still. Also, PSFs give Mission Creds of course.

Rinse and repeat for ten years, and boom, Ched will definitely, definitely give you the Title of 'Saint'. And you'll probably get a news article and Collectible too.

Even if not, it'd still be cool to see a player with such a restrictive playstyle make it big, as long as they're truly enjoying it. And maybe in the far future, where that player has long since quit, here their character will remain, as an SSL-using, Smurf-having, EOD-wearing, melee-parrying goody twoshoes with one of the very few clear consciences in this city.

TLDR: Don't know, but it'd be cool, as long as I'm not the one doing it.

First name that pops to mind is Honor_Scholar.

No attacks, no crimes, no drugs, no gambling. When people would send him gifts and it had a drug in it he would say that is bad and throw it in the dump 🤣 interesting person and play style.
