Money loses its value if everyone have permanent items, this should'nt be the case for a game that revolves around money in the first place.

The game is broken and that's why you can find a newbie making 8 mil a day through selling defends.

Money just don't matter anymore.

No-Focks-Given [2648593]

I can help end this right now,I've had this idea myself many donkeys ago,and mine was based on durability on armor an weapons,to improve armor an weapon markets, whilst the idea wasnt the worst especially for traders, bogie shut it down stating that it would need a complete redesign on all Armors an weapons which wouldnt happen. So yh.......

Chab_5aled [3598236]

I know you've invested a lot of your time in the game, but i would love to see a counter argument to my suggestion rather than defending your commitment to this game.

I am not saying the game is bad, but the economy it is built on have to be changed.

JackKelly [2271177]

Time played = 99 minutes

So it took you a whole hour and a half to figure everything out about the game and come to the conclusion that money doesn't matter. And the way to fix it, according to your vast knowledge is to make items degrade over time. You know, if this was a troll, it would almost be funny, but I have a feeling that you are being 100% serious, which just makes it sad.

Chab_5aled [3598236]

That would be a part of the fix, having to buy items consistently can be a good way to justify the need for more money. What i can do with all the wealth if i had the best items (forever).

JackKelly [2271177]

You don't even know what the best items are.

People that actually play and try to progress already have the need for money. All this would do is dramatically lower the value of all rw gear. Nobody is going to spend billions for a weapon or armor that is going to stop working. They'll spend a few million for one, but not when all they will get for their trouble, is a few caches of weapons and armor that will also stop working, and only be worth a few million or less.

I'm sure you enjoyed whatever game you played that your stealing this idea from. Fortunately, not all games have to use the same mechanics. Let me know what it is called. I'll go play it for an hour and a half and let you know all the ways it can be improved upon.

JustAndrey [2527016]

Constant influx of new players as well as strive of the older players to get better keeps the price of items consistently high.

Of course this is a lobotomy tier dumb down and there's lot more to it than that, but there's no point in explaining something that anyone over a day of playtime already understands

This is just a complaint dressed up as a suggestion. Your "suggestion" would do better if you wrote something like,

Item durability: when an item loses all durability, the stats of the item {armor, coverage, damage, accuracy, and stealth} are all reduced by 15%. Items lose 10% durability per attack (can be reduced to 5% with merits). Players can repair items at Big Al's for a fee of 50% of the item value for non-ranked war items and $2m flat fee for ranked war items. The fee is high to motivate users to buy more weapons to get items with a quality rating worth repairing. This system will add an economic sink which will help combat inflation.

Here are some thoughts to consider which may help you improve your suggestion:

  • Not all items are permanent. How does money lose value because of the items that are permanent?
  • How does money gain value from the items that are consumable?
  • Why shouldn't a game that revolves around money have permanent items?
  • How does selling losses mean the game is broken?
  • How is the amount you can make per day selling losses relevant to item durability?
  • Money buys consumables, equipment, companies, factions, bounties, etc... In which circumstances does money not matter?
  • How does the durability system your suggestion work and how does that improve gameplay?

The only piece of my combat equipment your networth can buy is my temporary item (which is single use).

Chab_5aled [3598236]

A suggestion stems necessarily from a complaint,to which i am not obligated to write a detailed implementation of it as you did.

Money loses its value from the diminishing need for it, and item permanency does that exactly even if so little.

buying defends for that amount of money, which requires absolutely nothing , when they can do it for much cheaper (supposing that players are min-maxing the game), is a sign of money inflation , that riches no longer care about (money), and no one can deny this supposing they read torn threads once in a while.

So many things to unpack on this thread. As others have pointed out, you are very very new to the game, and it shows with this post. There have been many people in the past who have wanted to suggest making the Suggestions Forums only for people whose account is over a certain age, to prevent this kind of thing. It saves new players the potential embarrassment of posting ridiculous/repeat/nonsensical/etc ideas, and it saves those of us who spend most of our forum time in this section the eyesore and secondhand embarrassment of reading them. But that's beside the point.

Not all items are permanent. Gear, clothing, weapons, etc, yes, are permanent. And to my knowledge, there isn't a true way of deleting them from the game. Even dumping them in the dump, they still exist in the game files. But there are a lot of items that are temporary, and many of them are the more highly sought after and valuable items in the game. And even with the economy's growth from the increasing number of permanent items, the economy for the average player is pretty stable. We can tell because we can look at the price of common items over the years. Xanax, Beer, FHC's, etc, all items with pretty stable prices, despite the increasing number of them in the item pool.

Yes, there are items that get a little silly in their prices. But silly =/= unreasonable. Yes, an item that there's only a small handful of in the entire game is going to be an absurd price. But it's not unreasonable. If there were only 100 xanax allowed to exist in the game at any given time, their value would be much much higher (although I could very well see one person stockpiling them to crank prices). And yes, there are people with absurd amounts of money who, if they should so please, would be capable of purchasing practically anything they want. But that's not uncommon for games, or for real life. It's just how thriving economies work sometimes.

Now, as for other things brought up in this thread...

The game is absolutely NOT the same as it was when it released. At all. It's changed drastically. Hell, there was a time where when you mugged someone, you just stole all the money they had on their person. And that was it. You were screwed. Or you mugged it back, or someone else, etc etc. But carrying any amount of money on you was risking ALL of it, not between 0% and 15%. The game has changed plenty since its release, which, mind you, was 21 years ago. If Torn were a person living in the US, it could legally drive, vote, drink, and is nearing old enough to rent a car.

Being a green leaf and complaining about how new players can earn 8m a day while not even having that much money is f**king wild. Like... You get up in arms about how easy it is to make millions of dollars, and then haven't even bothered to do so. And then you're getting upset at how much money that is, when, as many others have stated, it's really not that much. Yes, if I had 8 million dollars irl, my life would be drastically different. But it's not that much in Torn. Start complaining about how easy it is when you can be earning 8 billion a day just selling losses.

And lastly, not all suggestions come from complaints. There are a lot of them, sure, but certainly not all of them. There are a plethora of suggestions in this forum of just genuinely cool ideas that people had. And granted, the lot of them either don't get traction or get turned down, but they do exist. And don't try and turn it around and say people are complaining that Torn doesn't have fishing or coffee or cocaine. Those aren't complaints, they're just ideas.
