I was asked to download a game by someone to “spread awareness as it was new” I thought sure why not help a new game out of it isn’t hot trash and was met with this message;

 

 

I clicked no, uninstalled the game, reported it to the App Store and have contacted staff about it… Be careful out there folks, someone is up to some tomfoolery!!

 

Edit: I did not have the torn PDA open when I opened this game, I did not try to download it through the torn PDA. I had to manually type the name in, select it then download it.

It's most likely just trying to steal whatever you have in your clipboard, some apps that aren't considered fully trusted by Apple will have you confirm whether you want to paste that or not.

This used to be a scam on Discord (albeit on PC where they could just give you malware instead of a game), so I'd be weary if someone asked me to download a random game :P

Yeah I mean my clipboard had the words “unique outcomes 20/22” or whatever it says in the crime section so it wouldn’t have been interesting.

 

Yeah I thought it was “more legit” as I wasn’t asked to find it through a link, they showed me which game it was and to download it. But I won’t be doing it again 😂

This is hilarious, as the old iOS torn app would immediately request access to your clipboard as well. Exactly like this. Yes, it was dodgy at the time; just as it is today.

 

There are legitimate uses for this, quite often it'll use it to pull stuff like promo codes (ie if you install from a website, add promo to clipboard, then app pulls clipboard on first launch) but these cases are rare.

 

But yes, apps may do this as an attempt to get lucky by pulling a password or some secret.
