We've worked very hard to reduce the likelihood, but I wouldn't go that far. Assuming Torn is to last many decades longer, it's statistically more likely it'll happen than not. There are plenty of things that could force us to … - AmericanCoop [1027063]

Rollbacks aren't scheduled. It's a mechanism to preserve the game in case of a critical failure. The last one was years ago, and given all the protections to the game at this point, we probably won't see another one.

Should have requested a server reset instead of a rollback, that way the guy who bountied you would be too poor to place it.

I'm sure it was done in batches, would be cool to round up some oldies and figure out how many batches there were and how long it took to restore everyone.
It's kind of entertaining, everyone wants to rollback, I can pretty much assure everyone that they don't want to lose all of their progress tho. When I started Torn it was doing weekly/monthly back ups, Torn crashed and they had to roll back like 3 weeks or something to find a stable backup. My first account in Torn was straight up deleted lol.

Out of curiosity, how would that work if someone had purchased DPs? Say you bought DPs yesterday, and they rolled back to a month ago. Ched should clearly refund you for the RL money you lost, I would assume.

The game gets saved every 24h (or it used too) so it would only ever be a max of that

People want the merit, not the roll back lol.
It's become a problem because it's virtually unattainable with all safeguards in place now to prevent it.
I can't recall it ever being discussed whether there will ever be a substitute way to obtain it or not, or if modern accounts are just locked out of getting it indefinitely.
I think maybe an non-tradable collectible or something would've been a better option to credit accounts for surviving a roll back as opposed to a merit. I don't think there's any other merits that are actually impossible to obtain, as there shouldn't be any.
Just as we old accounts are locked from RNG merit, or lotto merit, or jackpot merit, those belong to noobs.
