If you change your name, does it render the previous one locked, or can someone else snag it? Or can you change it back to the original of you so desired?

It becomes available to anyone. You can change your name back if no one else takes it but you have to wait 90 days to change your name again.
The cost also goes up rapidly
Unless you're ched, when he changes his name he locks chedburn from being taken with a special message when you try.
