I'm relatively new and play just for myself at the moment. So this player - Sonoran - puts a bounty on me because: reason: keeps mugging me
Have I behaved outside of game ettiquette? I do admit to mugging her several times but with over $600k taken at the max this seemed like easy money?

not one, they're just a bit salty, however something to note about torn, is actions have consequences.
You can do what you wish, but people can retaliate however they wish.
Gotta learn to protect your money, I never understood getting mugged then spending more to get the mugger hosp. Been mugged plenty and each time it was preventable till I learned .

99% of people mugged are mugged because of their own greed (not selling to trader, not hosping, etc) .
you could also argue that most muggers are mugging for greed.
both are playing the same game and realistically afflicted by greed just playing for different teams.
this ain't farmville.
Too often you see people lose $10m to a mug, then spend $25m on the bounties because "it's about the principle".
Well if your principle was getting money, you could have prevented that mug to begin with...
how do I prevent getting mugged...I am very new and my money keeps getting taken as soon as I have a little lol...my faction has helped give me things to start but I won't be able to afford the house they give/rent me if I keep getting mugged lol
If you don't care about your money, someone else will. Tell that to everyone who complains to you about being mugged.
Don't carry cash on hand. One way is to buy Xanax (it usually retains its price so you can sell if for close to the price you paid for it.) If you check out the Tutorials and Guides Forum, there are guides to storing your cash.
If you don't have cash on you, muggers will stop mugging you.

No, it won't stop for a long time, but it will taper off slightly faster as your stats increase.
Best you can do is decide how much they get.
I don't think you can mug someone too much, It's pretty much up to you if you want to you can mug them until bankruptcy.
Pretty much what casual said, make sure you don't have cash on hand, hiding it in the value of items is one way.
Another is using the bank in torn to save a majority of it and gain some interest on the side.
Check with your faction as well since they may allow for deposits and payouts once you've been there for a few days.
Keep mugging them.

I'm only on day 3 so Ive been trying to find ways to hide what money I do have. I did stash some in a piggy bank I purchased, I also bought all the things I could that would be valuable to me right now, I've checked out the bank and I want to invest but I don't know how to get a cashier's check. Where can those be found? Sorry, I'm new and haven't figured that one out yet.
Get stock ticker with your points, store cash in stocks, also bank investments.

The only thing I can say is welcome to Torn and he is giving a gentle nudge saying maybe learn what the forums are like around here before posting.
