Torn's rules are arbitrary at best.

First off, my apologies if this is the wrong forum. Normally I don't really care but I have an important point to make here.

Now that that's been said, as some may know I recently went through an exchange with an anonymous harasser who had taken exception to my "the only good nazi is a dead one" pfp (which I have since changed) and bountied me with the comment: "nazi." The bounty was placed anonymously. This matters to me, but apparently did not matter to staff.

Realistically, I am not offended. It was either the effort of a genuine bigot trying to "pwn the libtard" in which case their opinion means nothing, or someone just messing with me for laughs, which believe it or not is something I encourage.

My response was to go on global chat and accuse the anonymous person, who I did not even attempt to identify, of crimes that if spoken would likely result in a forum ban, or at this point especially given that I'm airing a grievance against the staff publicly, account deletion. I'm guessing you can figure out what.

During my tirade I specifically expressed that I didn't know who it was, nor was I going to make any attempt to identify them. Shortly after, I received a staff warning citing the famously inconsistently enforced "Extreme Flaming" Rule. 

Their warning was thus:

Extreme Flaming

We have reviewed content you have recently submitted in the Chat and determined you have breached the Extreme Flaming rule to a Moderate degree.

Calling a user a   is a serious and potentially damaging accusation, if this is a genuine accusation then please report this to a staff member who can investigate and report to authorities as necessary. Future offences may result in federal jail time.

I felt this was unfair, because my accusation was against an anonymous individual, and was clearly an obvious joke, whereas the anonymous individual lobbed his accusation at me in a publicly viewable way, aka: my bounty reason. I replied via a self-report expressing that sentiment. Here was their response:

Because the person chose to remain anonymous does not mean you're allowed to flame them, they still exist as a person and just because you don't know their identify does not remove the weight of your accusations. This warning will stand. 

At this time, "Nazi" is not actionable. Due to it being thrown around so much on the internet, it does not hold the same weight that   does, so no action will be taken. Thank you for your report.

I anticipated this, though it doesn't make it any less disappointing. First off the redacted accusation I had mentioned in chat is thrown around equally as frequently as "nazi" is, if not moreso in our current political climate. However, this is their game, they're gonna do what they're gonna do even if it makes them look like they think nazis aren't that bad, so I let it go until today.

Once again. This is fine  in their eyes. I have never displayed any nazi-like tendencies, nor have I ever spoken in ways that can be considered sympathetic to their cause, but on this game, in this political climate,  such an accusation carries weight.  

Furthermore, I personally think Nazis and should all have lit blowtorches thrown at them until they die, but apparently the eyes of Torn's staff, being a nazi isn't that big a deal I guess.

So what do I expect  to happen here? Honestly, nothing. My estimation of the integrity of this game's staff has never been lower, and I have no expectations whatsoever that they'll do anything beyond grave this thread. 

What do I want to happen? I want even-handed, equal application of this game's rules, with far clearer and simpler explanations of what they are along with examples of what is and is not considered acceptable.  I don't want an apology (obviously not gonna get one) I don't want the person or people calling me a nazi to get in trouble, I don't even want the warning rescinded. I want to be able to trust that the staff of this game has our best interests in mind, has pride in what they do, and shows a modicum of respect to their players.

Again, I don't expect this to be anything more than a waste of my time. I just wanted to get it off my chest. Feel free to reply with the customary "tl;dr" complaints, homophobic/racist slurs that nothing will be done about, accusations of me being a whiny cuck or whatever gets you hard I really don't care.

Just don't bother reporting misbehavior in the forums or global chat, The report feature is not there to protect decent people or enforce the rules evenly, it's there to allow bigots, trolls and s a way of lashing out at those who would stand against them.

Either you didn't read the whole thing or I didn't communicate clearly.

The problem wasn't that they called me a nazi. The problem was the staff is inconsistent.

Different context, one was a bounty and one was in global chat. 

Did you report the bounty to staff or did you just decide to spazz out in global chat? and look now you've continued your tantrum to the forums expecting any of us to give two f*cks. 

If being called that triggers you this badly, I don't know what to tell you other than you should probably wear a helmet before replying to me in future.

Funny, I was considering reporting you (well not you) when I saw that bounty yesterday, because I’ve seen staff take actions against accusations of pedophilia and I wondered if an accusation of being a nazi would be considered equally. But then I got distracted and forgot about it.

Staff’s reasoning of “Nazi is thrown around so much on the internet that it doesn’t hold the same weight” is interesting. “pedophile” certainly is not as common an accusation but I have seen it tossed around by kids the second someone they know or assume is an adult does or says something they don’t like. Kind of how “nazi” is thrown around by kids the second someone does or says something they don’t like.

I imagine that whoever placed the bounty on you knew your political stance well enough to know it would bother you so, and surely they will chortle the whole time they read your post as they envision you crying and malding while you slap your sausages on the keyboard as you posted this. 

At the end of the day, I think most reasonable people will see a single anonymous bounty claiming something so heinous and not take it as truth. Such claims require thorough evidence, and anyone who believes it without evidence is probably a nazi pedophile themselves. 

Oh yeah, it depends what mod you get and what mood they are in. I got told off for extreme flaming for telling someone to go f themselves, which is thrown around on the internet all the time.

I mean you told someone to go kill themselves. Tons of people have been convicted IRL for encouraging people to commit suicide online. I encourage you to google "convicted encouraging suicide online".

For something that doesn't bother you, you sure are all up in them feels.

I honestly don't care about being called a nazi. My shenanigans in chat were for my own amusement. I kinda thought the outlandish wording made that obvious, but you know, reading comprehension is a bit beyond most torn players.
