It would be weird if there was an American pope in the early days of Catholicism.
Pope Sitting Bull I
It’s good to be here
He seems to be one of the good guys. Caring about the poor and marginalized. Sort of progressive. Many way worse choices could have been made.
I am not Catholic, so I don't have a dog in this fight, however I find Papal politics very interesting.
I am not sure how I feel about a US Pope. May be good, may not. Who knows. Every Pope bases their policy from what they know. Many Popes have been from poor, impoverished countries where the need is great.
This Pope is from Chicago, so yeah... he's covered there.
I guess we'll see. He may be awesome. Maybe he's the false prophet spoken of in Revelation. 🤷🏻♂️ Either way, it's out of my control and above my paygrade.
I think its a plant.
From the wiki
In 2012, Prevost lamented that popular culture fostered "sympathy for beliefs and practices that are at odds with the Gospel", citing the "homosexual lifestyle" and "alternative families comprised of same-sex partners and their adopted children"
As a bishop Prevost opposed the inclusion of curriculum regarding "teachings on gender in schools" in Peru, stating that the "promotion of gender ideology is confusing, because it seeks to create genders that don't exist"
In 2000, Prevost allowed Father James Ray, an Augustinian priest, to reside at St. John Stone Friary in Chicago under a monitor, refraining from public ministry, after the first rectory proposed for his residence was rejected by the archdiocesan review board because it was on the same property as a parish school. Ray had been suspended from public ministry since 1991 due to credible accusations of sexual abuse of minors.
...
Sigh.
His from Chicago and served in Peru hopefully he doesn’t wear a bulls jersey when he visits home or he’ll be deported to El Salvador for being ms13
Congrats america, you've got a pope now!
That is just regular poping though. They all say that and someone saying different things would not be elected. Francis saying "gays don't necessarily go to hell" was the furthest one ever went.
He's a pope. He will still cover up catholic priests f**king kids as every other pope before him has done...
Nationality doesn't matter...
Yeah, I'd say the nationality of the Pope is pretty irrelevant. They serve the Vatican, no matter where they're from.
They can have their own opinions and agendas. He is the leader of the pop culture when it comes to religious catholics basically. If he comes out and supports Israel or other American agendas, many catholics will follow suit. He is their leader. If he comes out and says "the right thing to do is support Israel" for example, even the catholics that may have felt differently before, may go against their own beliefs and listen to him. This is not only in regards to the Palestine-Israel situation, but damn near everything. We will see if he pushes any agendas.
Edit: currently studying the Order of Saint Augustine and the history of it. Apparently this guy was the first Augustinian pope in a very long time. Also, there was apparently another Chicago cardinal that was in the running to be pope along with Leo 14. He was also one of the favored to win.
A pope is a pope. Vatican is gonna Vatican.
I think people greatly overestimate their influence, and I think if the denomination that chose him wants him there, good for them, but it's going to mean little to the rest of the world.
I think people greatly underestimate their influence as well. For all you know, the one before hims influence may have got him killed.
Which Pope was that?
Given the allegations against him he was a bad choice .
He ran cover for diddlers. He holds some serious antibiblical beliefs. He chose the name Leo (a blasphemous name as any lion except the Lion of Judah is a deceiver)
He's only slightly more biblically aligned than the last Pope. Catholic Church is doomed.
