Hello credit-card-whales, degenerate gamblers, multiple-oil-rig-owners, filthy-poors, feet pic sellers, unlucky slot machine spinners, and everyone in between.
Several of us have been diving deep into Torn for a while now, and despite all of the new crime content, trading changes, and war updates, we keep coming back to the underlying mysteries that exist. Torn has no shortage of hidden corners, unsolved formulas, and strange stats that seem to serve no clear purpose...
We know Ched and the devs love to plant breadcrumbs, but what if we’ve only scratched the surface on some things? Is it possible they've developed a huge amount of content that we simply haven't discovered/unlocked yet?
- What's the deal with praying in the church?
- Do the rock, paper, scissors numbers in player profiles have some hidden purpose?
- What do the fingerprints in the newly released criminal record represent?
- Is there a hard upper limit on quality % on advanced weapons/armor?
- Are AI "players" sending strange anonymous messages that some players have reported getting?
- What are the coefficients that determine the checkpoint success rate of the different OC 2.0 roles? (ie. Muscle seems to be based on the manu work stat, disposal crime skill, strength battlestat, underlying crime experience... but by how much?)
- Can the ever-elusive and borderline-game-breaking Expose + Deadeye bonus combination spawn on Red Armalites/Enfields/Tavors/Sigs? (Hilariously high average damage output) Or Bloodlust + Parry on a Red Kodachi? (Opens up the ability for several non-megazord-battlestat-level players to solo NPCs who only use melee weapons)
- Is there actually a hidden "luck" stat that is swayed toward new player retention?
- Are there concealed curses associated with the Special Halloweek items that a few lucky players obtained from M'aol and his minions?
Speculation is fun, but if we want to uncover anything real, we need to separate rumors from facts. I’m calling on the community to shift toward gathering objective, verifiable data on Torn’s mysteries. The scientific process isn't difficult; and your ability to carry out the scientific process is ultimately a large part of what separates you from the chimpanzee at the local zoo. So form those hypotheses, isolate some independent variables, test them in a repeatable-by-others manner, and report your findings!
Thanks for reading and I'll see you on the race track in a few weeks helping to figure out the new racing skill gain formula after Ched buffs it. (Don't forget about the stock block and 10-star mechanic shop company special)
