How do players accumulate so many items. Went to buy a card skimmer and one guy has 5000 for sale. What's the benefit of holding onto the items instead of selling when you have more than you need.

Items like that become junk that you don't care about nor even care to sell really quick. Not enough uses for them and too cheap to care.
Buy low - sell high 👀
I've bought skimmers when abroad just to buy something when I didn't check availability.
Put all your merits into awareness, and you too will soon get that many card skimmers!
