Thoughts..? (Factions)

Can I vent for a sec?? 😅

For context, i’m level 17. The longer I play, it’s becoming very clear to me that a lot of Torn ‘Vets’ pretty much treat this game as a part-time job. They take it very seriously and get angry & impatient easily. They expect you to be working for the faction every second that youre active, at least during war. (I do understand participation is important and we wanna win, but people kind take it overboard and get rude about it). At least that’s been a lot of my experience so far.

I’m kind of afraid to keep playing cuz i don’t wanna become that way lol. I’ve been playing increasingly more & more for the short time i’ve been playing. Are there such things as casual Torn players? Are you allowed to be a semi-casual player and also be in a Faction? Or do you think that people should stay out of Factions if they aren’t dedicated to spend hours everyday on the game? Am I bound to become addicted to this game and spend my whole day on it like they do? Are there factions with kind & chill leaders who dont mind helping? Can you invite me? 😂 I have questions.

(PS i’m looking for a new faction. :) i am a team player and im dedicated to learning the game, just don’t necessarily wanna spend 6+ hours a day on it).

For one, there are no Torn veterans in your faction. Maybe they're working on their growth, maybe they're taking that seriously, but nobody taking the game seriously is in a sub 1m faction.. at least. 

People who get angry and impatient at those who don't understand the game as well as they'd like aren't worth spending time with. This community is diverse - it's very likely if you look, you'll find a faction that suits you better. 

Regarding war, every member's activity contributes to the win or loss. If you're in the faction for war, you should at the very least put in effort to deny the opponent hits. If you sit there and take your opponents' hits, you're working against your faction. Stay in the hospital, or travel. You don't need to be online at all times. Of course, it's important to make hits too, as that gains your faction score, which helps win the war. 

Not all factions war. Some war but infrequently. You can absolutely be a casual player and be in a faction; it's just a matter of finding one that supports casual players. Talk with leaders before joining. Make sure they pass the vibe check.

Quitting Torn over a bad faction leader is like quitting a good job over a good manager. The difference here is you get to choose your "manager." Exercise that choice for best results.

In case you didn't know, you're stuck in your faction until the war ends. This is a game mechanic and there's nothing you can do but make the best of it.

There are casual factions and try-hard factions, and everything in between. You just need to find the faction that fits you. If people are getting frustrated at you because you aren't putting in as much effort as they are, it's understandable. You're doing the right thing by moving on.

That being said, you might find that your next faction doesn't do anything at all and that you are the one feeling frustrated at the lack of participation and activity. Eventually you will find a good place in a faction that fits your current playstyle preferences, and if or when your preferences change, the beauty is that there will be another faction out there that is right for you.

The learning curve is steep at first, take time to learn the ropes.

There are plenty of people who aren't like that, if you don't like the faction, find a better one. If the leaders in that faction are acting like that, they're probably just dicks. People play at their own rate, especially in a game like Torn.

There are plenty of semi-casual factions, and you can certainly be a casual player. Some faction don't war, or only war infrequently. The biggest part is just finding people who will accept how you are playing. If you play 6 hours a day, there are people who accept that, but even if you play 1 hour a day, some people will accept them too.

Try to find a faction that fits your needs because factions are the lifeblood of Torn. If you find a good one, they become the best part of Torn. If you're in a shitty one, the game isn't very fun. 

Hope you find your dream faction, it really makes Torn fun. I know from experience. I'm just saying, Eclipse Vanguard is always open to team players who want to learn the game! :)

There are tons of different factions. 

There are people lower level than you running factions right now. They raid other small factions, kind of do their own thing. And that's ok. 

But you get what you give. These factions will never be noteworthy, at best will never have good perks, and at worst may even give you bad advice, lead you in the wrong direction, or use you for their own financial gain..

Pretty reasonable take, some players do take the management of the faction quite seriously and quite literally a day job. Some have invested real life money and/or real life time to get to where they are 

Everyone will have a different definition of a "vet" or people who "take the game seriously," imo it doesn't hold any water because those metrics are ever changing and no one metric will tell you the quality of a player. 

All that matter in this game is that you are having fun, it sounds like TORN is fun, but your current faction and you are just not compatible 

It is like a relationship, keep dating around and seeing what requirements there are and if you are able to make them/if they work with you. Most faction leaders are real people too and will be quite understanding and accommodating.

A faction in the 300k-900K range would be ideal to find like minded players, while also matching with war targets you can hit. 

Stick around and play how you like mate, lots of chill places that don't even war or require you to war- if you are not into that

Some factions are really hard core while others are almost inactive. Many veteran players now have a full-time job, a partner, kids etc. I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for in the end. 

Yes, there are casual factions, you can find one if you look for it.

Join an actual faction. Not a shitty 79k cache farm that takes advantage of its members. There are plenty of high(er) respect factions that are mostly casual, OC/Travel/Training related.

Sure, there are casual factions. I spent my first few years in one. But it's worth bearing in mind that the rewards a faction gives you ultimately come from the activity of faction members. 

Faction perks come from respect, which has been farmed by members over the years. Sure, some factions are coasting on prior activity, but to improve that effort needs to be put in. So a faction might require that members participate in chains.

Organised crimes can be quite profitable, if members put in the effort to be there on time and join them efficiently.

Wars can make nice money. But you need to put in the effort to win them. Even a termed war requires you to make hits, and the ability to get good terms stems from being able to fight and win the occasional real war. And that takes effort from the faction members. A faction with high activity and coordination can defeat factions with much higher stats but low activity.

It's a game, play to have fun. If you are not having fun, change your game play...

After over 100 wars, you will mellow. Just another job, another task, another routine, and another week.

You’ll get more upset about other things that can affect your faction in the long term like perks, politics with faction peers, faction vibe/culture, recruitment, etc.

I have very thin patience for stagnancy — as thin as Broko’s receding hairline. That’s what I tell my noobs who keep missing their Xanaxes.

Also, the last time I lashed out, it wasn’t about wars. It was about internal politics where one guy incited a riot and gossiped about another member. I kicked him out and stood my ground even when my closest friend was against it.

Speaking as a Faction Leader: 

I respect that my faction members have lives outside of Torn, real life always comes first - But we also operate as a team, if you know you won't be around you need to communicate with somebody so we can make arrangements for you.

There's a balance that you can find in playing a Team activity; like Ranked Warring with your faction and real life.

But yes; I definitely do spend a lot of my own spare time organizing things and communicating with members.

In my experience: most veterans believe in a balance as well, because most of them are adults with lives, work, and some, families.
