🎯 Level Progress Shower

This script enhances the sidebar Level display by showing your exact progress toward the next level (e.g. 69.42) based on real-time leaderboard data from Torn’s Hall of Fame (HoF).

🧩 Features

  • 📊 Displays your level progress (e.g. 69.42) based on HoF rankings.
  • 🎯 Works entirely from the sidebar with zero UI clutter.
  • ⚡ Auto-updates regularly in the background using cached data.
  • 🔁 Automatically refreshes when your level changes.
  • 🧠 Smart use of Torn’s API to avoid overloading or wasting calls.

🔧 Installation

  1. Install Tampermonkey or a compatible userscript manager.
  2. Get the script from GreasyFork:
👉 Click here to install the script

🔑 API Key Setup

To function, the script needs your Torn public API key.

  1. Click the Tampermonkey browser extension icon.
  2. Open Dashboard > Torn - Level Progress Shower.
  3. Click “Configure API Key” from the menu.
  4. Enter your API key in the popup and click the "Validate and Save" button.

Don't know how to get a public API key? Click here.

⏳ What to Expect After Setup

After installing the script and entering your API key, the script begins processing data in the background.

  • ✅ You must stay on any www.torn.com page for up to 5 minutes without refreshing.
  • 🔍 During this time, the script performs its initial data fetch, including rank lookup and target player choice.
  • ⚠️ If you refresh, the process may reset and take longer.

Once complete, your level will automatically update in the sidebar to show a decimal (e.g. 69.42).

No manual action is needed once the process begins — just let the page sit!

📸 Before & After

🔺 After:

🧠 How It Works

Here’s what the script does under the hood:

  1. Fetches your current level and Hall of Fame (HoF) rank using the API.
  2. Calculates your position between two key points:
    • The rank of the inactive player at your level with the highest level exp;
    • The rank of the inactive player below your level with the highest level exp.
  3. Estimates your progress by interpolating between those ranks.
Example: If you're halfway between the two, it shows 42.50 instead of just 42.
  4. Caches the results for up to 24 hours and updates automatically if:
    • Your level changes
    • Cached inactive player data is no longer valid
    • You clear cache manually from the dashboard
    • A minute has passed

This allows the script to display a fluid, progress-based level number that reflects how close you are to reaching the next level — even if Torn doesn’t display this natively!

Note on Level Holders:
Some players choose not to level up even after reaching the experience threshold — these are known as level holders. Because their level does not reflect their true experience, they can slightly distort the Hall of Fame rankings.

As a result, your displayed progress may be slightly lower than your actual progress. However, the effect is minimal because very few players intentionally hold their level.

🧼 Optional Tools

From the dashboard, you can:

  • 🧪 Validate & Save a new API key.
  • ♻️ Clear Cache to force a fresh data fetch.
  • ❌ Cancel the setup popup anytime.

💬 Feedback

Feel free to reply with bugs, ideas, or enhancements.
Hope this helps you grind smarter!

⚠️ Known Issues

A significant number of players are (unintentionally?) holding their level, which will cause your displayed progress to be significantly lower than the actual value. Full discussion here: View reply

📡 API Usage & Compliance

This script is designed to be safe and compliant with Torn’s scripting rules.

  • During a major data refresh (e.g. on first run, level up, or forced cache clear), the script may use up to 60 API calls per minute.
  • During normal use with valid cached data, it will typically make 3 API calls per minute or less.

All requests are made exclusively to Torn's official API and are throttled to comply with rate limits and the following Torn rule:

SCRIPTING ABUSE: Game ban
The use of scripts, extensions, applications or any other kind of software is allowed only if it uses data from our API or a page you have loaded manually and are currently viewing. They cannot make additional non-API requests to Torn, scrape pages that you're not currently viewing, or attempt to bypass the captcha.

✅ This script makes only API calls and never scrapes Torn pages or simulates user interactions.
✅ No background crawling, no DOM scraping, and no captcha interactions.
✅ You are safe to use it without violating Torn's rules.

Have you considered level holders? Like some inactive holding lvl 42, while their real level is way higher. Wouldn't that mess up the estimation?

e7cf09 [3441977]

You're absolutely right, I didn't think this through, even though I thought I did.

I did a quick field research on level 49 users, and among the ~1120 users there are ~80 level holders, enough to skew my estimates by 7-8%.  I will try to use a heuristic algorithm to correct the numbers when I have the time...!

e7cf09 [3441977]

Estimating exp in this way will still be affected by level holders, you can imaging that the two numbers will only change smaller by a little; if anything, it will only make estimations worse, since the numbers you have are already too small.

e7cf09 [3441977]

True, but noobs under level 15 or people who don't want to spend time and waste e travelling could benefit from my script, so I think there's at least some sense in it

ThunderBlitz [2684774]

You can also pay someone in a 10 star Candle Shop to check your true level, freeing up API calls for more productive scripts.  No disrespect intended, it's a great effort for someone fairly new to the game even though the majority of folks won't need this one.

Kwack [2190604]

They do completely different things.

Fortune Teller shows progress until the next level, if you're holding it'll just say you're ready to level up. So useful for non-holders, useless for holders.

True Level only shows the level someone would be at if they weren't holding - useful for holders, useless for non-holders.

Kwack [2190604]

Whilst tracking the HoF rank is a good way to see progress, displaying this as a decimal (so a % of progress) is marketing it as something it isn't.

Instead something like "in the top x% of level y" would make much more sense.

Hey e7cf09,

I can't find:

Click “Configure API Key” from the menu.

I'm on Chrome, following the steps you mentioned but i can't find that specific option. Maybe you can help?

Nevermind, i'm stupid. Well done, super nice script!

Thank you!

WhiskeySauer [3566938]

my problem is I can add the API to the popup, but it tells me it is invalid.  I've tried it with all the API options at this point.  Not sure what I'm doing wrong.  I've hit clear cache multiple times as well - but that doesn't seem to do anything.

EDIT - I figured it out.  somehow the api was added to the blacklist in the settings.  I removed it and it worked.
