but how does quality matter?
I assume you mean non-rw grey equipment, of which quality still measures how the statline stacks up vs equipment of the same type, and realistically if you care you should focus on the statline instead of quality, quality is the quick and lazy way to compare gear, esp with weapons (armour its essentially the same since qual only has one stat to bounce off of). If you're looking into macanas as an example, a 57d/70a is much more desirable than a 62d/65a despite them both being 50q, as it plays to the mac's strengths; ofc the opposite is true for a dbk where a 65d/62a would be more beneficial than a 60d/67a, again both at 50q (these ofc being the extreme ends of 50% qual of the two most commonly compared melees)
Remember that quality only compares the weapon you're looking at vs all other weapons of the same type; a 100q pen knife (26d/50a) will never outperform even a 0q dbk (60d/62a), so in that respect, look at stats when comparing across weapon type, quality is only meant to be a quick reference so you can compare your dbk vs a dbk on market (as an example)
Realistically though, vanilla stats won't matter much in 95% of fights, and they're not worth going out of your way to find/buy these days, if you're looking to buy higher stat gear you're better off searching TP/AH/market for some yellow gear that would have similar stats to the upgraded gear+a nifty bonus over spending the same amount on getting +1.5 damage and +2 acc - even if the stats are slightly lower, a good amount of yellow gear ourperforms grey (ofc, stats are still releveant, don't halve the stats of your current loadout in the name of some flashy bonus - its a balancing act!), a good guide to read through can be found here :)
TL;DR, use what your faction lends (grey or rw) you until you're ready to buy and play with yellow rw shits and find your own preferred loadout :) grey gear isn't worth buying for most people outside of fac leads these days, as most facs provide you with a strong enough base to get you settled until you're financially stable enough to afford your own loadout
