They pump money into the game majorly through RW - kind of war that doesn't make much sense when you consider the fact that both winners and losers receive expensive rewards - and then they start crashing other important aspects of the game to control inflation. Hyper inflation that shouldn't even be there in the first place. Plushy/flower market, points market, bazaar, all destroyed. Now ched is forcing everyone to use the general market so he can take a large portion of the sales. A lot of craps going on in the game now can be traced down to the proliferation of RW, but it seems ched is enjoying the rot

More specific solutions would be cool to discuss, especially with such a major take.

When you say weaken the big alliances, how would you see that done?

What would you like changed to the current methods of making money?

Do you have an ideal way these things get improved upon? Sudden and sweeping reworks? More subtle buffs/nerfs?

It's not the systems fault it's players fault why wars isn't fun here cause leaders make deals behind the doors you got a cache I got a cache and win lol anyone take win for 50M

f**k it man

Systems aren't rigged by themselves it's the players who rigged them lol

Platinum tier factions sold for billions

Those players create new speed run to platinum and sold again fast billions and cache without real hassle

f**k y'all

You mean everyone is doing what they want to do ? Yes imagine if conspiracies weren't allowed in a crime game

Bullzeye [922212]

Yes I agree, id go as far to say more than the last 2 years. It sucks to see sooo many top players simply quit over the last few years simply because torn isnt progressing

Qfiffle [2557282] Committee Committee

It seems to me that the players who feel like the OP fall into two groups (both are large, not saying the problem isn't real):

FIRST GROUP

Players who unexpectedly made it higher in the nw/stats order than they expected early on, whether through deciding to use credit cards, winning in casino, inheriting money, exploiting some loophole or early cache farming etc. They were grinding hard and kinda enjoying that despite complaining about it, and then suddenly they had everything they might want and can't really find a way to have fun anymore.

Stats are higher than most of the game, so fighting doesn't require a ton of strategy, too much thought about gear, or anything. In many wars they have no difficult targets at all. Gym gains are huge, they could afford 4 SEs a day or close to, but many don't really see the point, because doing that just worsens the first issue. Active play aimed at making money is a drop in the bucket compared to their existing wealth, so why grind for hours a day trading or providing services, or flipping companies or whatever for a tiny % of what turns up via passive income.

SECOND GROUP

Players who are LOW on the stats/NW continuum but surrounded by people who are way higher. I.e. smaller players in HoFs, small factions in big alliances. They have FOMO if they don't push themselves to have hundreds of bil NW and hundreds of bil stats, but they don't see a path to it and get demoralised. And/or they deny themselves any fun in the game that involves spending e or money because they see (accurately) that that just increases the gap between them and the top players.

Only real solution failing massive changes to gameplay mechanics that I doubt are coming, is a mindset change. When my faction members get to that 3-5b stats range where they suddenly realise that the next step is likely SEs and will need more money than they can get their hands on, they often start to think about just quitting Torn, or they become much less active. I try to encourage them instead to rethink their gameplay. If you're gonna quit anyway, forget about "wasting e" or "wasting money" and do all the stuff that seems fun to you. Buy red weapons and armor, stricken hit overseas people whose forum posts you don't like, develop a mugging habit, go do revive merits, whatever.

And for people who do have the resources to get into top 100 stats or a top HoF faction or whatever, I encourage them to very carefully consider whether it's gonna bring them the joy they think it might. Personally I could SE into the top 100 right now, but I suspect it would make our wars less fun than they currently are. I'm gonna wait a while.

I agree that it seems to have gone away from the original idea of Torn.

For me there is 2 main problems...

Wars need to be worth fighting to win.

New players need an E free way to make decent money.

Properly contested RW end up losing money for factions, and I can't even remember the last time TT wars were relevant.

If RW payouts were paid out by average attacks per hour(or any other suitable metric) instead of purely score based, real wars would be more profitable than terming. I've had way more fun getting absolutely spanked in a real war than termed snoozefests (semi-termed can also be fun, eg. both sides go nuts and first fac to a target score wins by termed margin).

I'd rather see a price floor brought back for points and balance rackets to stabilize the economy.

Rackets at present are basically the big dogs handing out cash to their friends. I'm of the opinion if a good chunk of torn can't fight to win or at least disrupt rackets, they shouldn't even be there.

Having a price floor for points would give new players a reliable way to increase NW, which would IMO increase the % of new accounts that stick around, and I really miss the flying income memes whenever travel was closed.

Maybe I'm oversimplifying it in my head but if points were worth more you could remove more $ from the game by having more points spent

FlowerFly [2152032]

I agree with most of it, but, what i'm missing in your story: get eliminations back and another similar event, so, the people who want to fight a lot can have their fun 2x a year more than now, and the criminals (like i'm one of them) don't have to bother how to stay "safe".

That would bring back a lot of fun for a lot of people i think

SirJux [2695126]

If you want wars to be actually fought, you have to push not losing too bad.

There is no penalty in losing right now. Imagine if 1m+ respect faction takes a 50k respect loss if they lose...or if the faction gets -10% battle stats nerf for the next week after they lose? would that make people fight more?

Said it before and I say it again... there cant be low risk-high reward systems... its gonna be shit. If you want high rewards then be willing to take high risk too...

Like caches gotten from RW could be not tradable... and the ones exchanged via bunker bucks could be tradable...  Like there are solutions that could work... but these changes should be just tested... take some of them and put them in use for few months - see what happens.

MaxHeadRoom [1429645]

think you pinned it there fella.

'less of a game.'

i genuinely think ched has forgotten its a game and that games are supposed to be fun, and when when games arent fun ppl stop playing.

personnally i will restart subbing again when things change or at least repaired a bit.

RobberHood [2361494]

I think your take on "if you're gonna quit anyway then you're free to do whatever you want" is pretty accurate and I think it flips the other way where I can say "well if I'm gonna keep playing then I'm here for the grind"

Weirdly I put myself in that low stat surrounded by high stat nw players because I'm in CR and am literally like the worst player in the faction but I'd be top 20 in most factions, so I think that sort of environment is always very fixable and nothing to do with the game, i could buy a 200k fac and be the top guy and make a RH cult if wanted to feel that ego trip (maybe one day?)

But I'm here for the grind, i guess. The part of me that looks really long term is aiming for that 100b nw merit and then once I've got it then i have 100b to spank on gear and SEs, the less optimistic side of me is aiming for 50b which is EOD and a sweet rifle and a reset on the grind. I'm just not that good at making money, but I'm making at least 35m per day and there was once a noob RH that was happy making 7m per day (without selling losses). I think I've come to terms with never SEing daily

I also remember seeing people with like 7m stats and thinking they were basically gods, shift from chaining to RW has made everyone way more stat conscious imo, previously stat gains was mostly to avoid being a chain target

If I ever make top 500 stats the game is probably dead

BrotherWen [2813636]

why would we work on attacking features (only the thing the whole game is built around) when we can spend 10 months chipping away at a single crime minigame
