I was watching a RW with interest due to it's knock-down-drag-out realness...  It was probably the hardest turtle war I ever watched.  The highest lead in the whole war was 330.  For most of the war the lead was below 100.  But the lead kept switching hands, and the leaders of both teams were pulling out the stops and going all in, seeking out flight delays and the whole nine yards!

It was inspiring to witness.

But then the most interesting thing happened:

I went to check in on the war expecting that it had ended, and was super shocked to see their war actually lasted over 5 days!

I had always thought that the lead target decay was balanced to end the war on the 120th hour (5 days, 0 hours).  This war lasted 5 days and 4 hours!

Could this have been the longest Ranked War in the history of Torn?!?!

But the weirdness didn't end there... I clicked in to the war report to view the graph and see when it was that the teams had finally "called" the war - meaning one team conceded - and this is WILD! Lookie here:

As you can see, both teams fought to the end.  But it appears the end never came!

You can read the story of how it all went down in the Bugs and Issues Forum here:

While I'm not personally involved in this one, when I saw what had happened, I thought it was newsworthy and the everyone would appreciate the opportunity to read up on it.

I don't know if this ever happened before, but it seems from what I can gather so far that the decay increment was going to place the lead target below 0, and this scenario was never accounted for when the RW system was coded.  This is a totally normal, mundane sort of bug, it's no matter of incompetence, these little things get overlooked all the time... but it produces a WILD result!

It seems the lead the winners had in the last hour was smaller than the decay interval.

If you've ever been in a 3+ day real RW in which the lead was so close throughout the war, as I have, then you know how stressful these events can be.  People call in sick to work, people get in fights with their spouses, people give up nights of sleep, people get edgy, punchy, and even sometimes turn on their own faction mates.  The pressure can be immense, and the leaders have to hold everything together.

If you've been in such a war, then you can imagine how devastating it would be having won (or even having lost tbf) and receiving 0 reward.  Luckily these guys recognized it as a bug immediately, so perhaps they were spared some grief in that.

But frankly I can't even imagine having a war that hard fought then looking at a goose-egg for my reward.

Man that sucks. I have also been following this war checking it every morning. At a few points one side or the other was only winning by 1 point. Some of the members are new enough to be in new player chat and many in that chat are invested too giving them advice on how to stay in the hospital or when to med out and make hits. It's been a great time

Yeah, wasn't fun on either side tbh. We've obviously been keeping across it in Occultus and were chatting as time ticked down. I was watching at the end and saw the score go to 0/0 and knew there was an issue. Hopefully the bug report gets resolved soon and both factions get their rewards for a hard fought war.

Really cool to see two factions really duking it out. Hope the bug is solved soon, and maybe some fly swatters awarded for finding it!

I remember clearly 3+ days war with Leafy's tree.

Oh wow what effort on both sides. 👍

Other wars can't recall.

This war was crazy and it's awesome to know so many people were following and invested in it!

Kudos to Lupi for keeping it so close, and to my team for scrapping together the W In the end. It was a frigging nail biter. We are eagerly awaiting word from admin on what's going to happen so that both sides can get the rewards they deserve!

OP called this war "hard fought".

Turtling is a tactic, but isnt fighting.  Both factions successfully wasted valuable training time doing this.

BobrKurwa [2841258]

Or did they? I usually have excessive energy nowadays...

Networth is 5th stat. Stricken is bs etc. Rendered useless.

No excuses, you fight or lose.

You think makes sense me to attack lvl 15 noobs?

Or lvl 100 noobs with no stats. No.

This.

My faction has been stuck in 5 day wars.  The fun part is gone by then as is the "fighting" part.  You are basically just trying to get it over by that point.

That war was just intense, it all came down to landing that final Chain 50 hit, with the other team diving in to deny it [Attack log]. We pulled ahead by 33 points (+40 points from landing the chain hit) and called for an 8-hour flawless faction-wide turtle to ride out the decay. But it didn’t just end with decay — the near-zero points bugged, and the admin eventually stepped in with a forfeit outcome, potentially breaking the longest war record?

But honestly, it was way more than just a turtle war. Between landing chain hits, flight delays, suicides, outsider interference, revive services, and more, this was a real war. Definitely not an efficient money-making war, but it was 100 times more genuine fighting than what’s usually called a termed war.

While definitely grueling, I'd consider this one of the best wars I've participated in. Was a back-and-forth all the way to the end, and I hope the bug ends up getting resolved. Was gutting going through the whole thing just to not get a single penny.

It's only a waste of time if your only goal is to min-max battle stats and net worth gains. Contrary to popular belief, some factions want to fight despite the subpar monetary rewards.

Having a strong turtle gives a faction many more options in war, especially in cases where their opponent is equal or higher stats. It's a huge advantage to be able choose the time of battle. Even more so in these small-roster wars where time is often a 3rd enemy - even if you have the upper hand, you can't just sit there farming targets for a few hours to rack up a large amount of respect like you can with a bigger roster. There simply aren't enough targets. So bleeding as little as possible is just as important as making hits - every point is hard won.

Kudos to both sides for a well fought war, and congrats to Occ2 for the win!

Dick_Dastardly [3162006]

This was, hands down, one of the best wars I've ever been in. We knew it was going to be an uphill climb, with Occul2us battle stats being three times higher than ours.
Knew we would have to Turtle to give us the best chance!
But honestly, the back-and-forth on the scoreboard, the constant nip-and-tuck and the sheer activity from both sides were absolutely awesome.

This war had everything: flight delays, bounties, restacking, chaining, and chain-breaking, TDA's, revives, everything and even pulling off sneaky attacks that we have renamed CHEEKYS signature 'sneaky-cheeky' move lol=the jumping out of the hospital and 'syruping up' right before taking another hit. Our Big Dave taking us through thick and thin!, our Chaining party flying away to gather the hits we needed and us TDA-ing abroad.. Was an absolute awesome mashup!
The only thing missing on our end was that sweet cigar puff for the win!

For anyone who thinks this was boring, you're sorely mistaken. We believe in having proper wars with no pre-arranged terms. My guys did absolutely everything they could, you were all phenomenal, especially considering some of you have only been playing for a short time.
Truly amazing! I couldn't ask for a better PACK.

But my hat also goes off to Occul2us. They pushed us hard and we pushed right back. They just managed to find a door we couldn't close fast enough. Fair play to them!

I'm really hoping the staff can rectify this bug soon so both sides get the rewards they've clearly earned

RedGobbo [3619801]

BobrKurwa, you gave us an awesome fight. We were completely outclassed but we tried to hold on and had a great time. NF Legacy were too good, and you did great in particular. Thank you.
