As we all know there was an update that removed points from rank war rewards so the market is booming right?

Jokes aside the point market is falling and is on track to an all time low, this is important as the cost of plush and flowers is almost directly tied to the price of points and the price of plush and flowers is how most new players make there start in torn.

Something needs to be done to protect the income of new players and make the game still playable for new people coming in and clearly the removal of points from rw was not the answer.

While i think bringing the pawn shop back in its old form would be a massive mistake as it would force the market to a place it could only rise I nerfed version of pawn shop could be the answer.

If we had pawn shop where you could sell points for 99% of market value (or something like this) we would have a place for these people selling massive bulk points far under market value somewhere to offload them and stop the massive decline of the market that kills one of the steadfast ways new players have been making money in torn for years.

Thanks for listening to my ted talk

We would also have additional money being "generated" by the system, which is something they want to minimize.

Which was the whole reason for this change - Even if I was not personally happy with it.

If the price of points will keep falling, they will need to lock the price, there just won't be another way. But maybe it will stabilize by itself? It probably will. It sucks to be running plushies at this moment, knowing how much people earned previously, that's for sure. But... Maybe they do want to change how the game should be played and this is not an accident? Join a warring faction, fight. Also, do the organized crimes. I don't think it is worth complaining about this anymore at this point. People will simply need to update their tutorial guides for the newer players, and emphasize different avenues for earning money from now on. Although, plushies are still earning quiet a bit of money, if you are not being lazy - let's not dismiss it completely, I think it is still the way to go.

Have you checked out crimes 2.0 or OC's 2.0? They have already done a lot to help newer players.

I hate change as much as the next guy, but this topic has been beat to death already.

First off this should probably be under suggestions but I think it would be cool if you could pay to fly somewhere new like Australia and their are better gyms there and stuff like that. The gym would function like the swiss hospital but it wouldn't go up in price just be a flat rate. It would take money out of the system and add a new gym for higher players.

I feel old cause I keep saying this in my faction:

BaCk In My DaY wE dIdN't HaVe.... Ranked Warring, Rackets, OC 2.0, (imo less so, but also it is relevant) Crimes 2.0

Viciously_Grim [2752611]

There's not enough room in the top 100 factions for all the noobs coming in.

At 27k respect my faction is in the top 2400 factions. (That's a lot of factions!)

27k respect isn't enough to unlock OC 2.0 *and* have the necessary perks we want open.

So doing a little bit of hand waving I can assure you noobs are generally not benefitting from OC 2.0.

It's a nice thought tho.

People made me do actual math :(

Faction HOF respect breakdown

100k respect reasoning

Why we only have 28k respect

Also apparently my arguments were very convincing bc my faction leader (I am co-leader) now wants to drop a drug perk to open OC2.0

😐😑😑😑😐

I looked at the respect needed and it's only 1400 some odd for the armor armory OR OC2.0 level 1 (level 2 is another 5k respect which we don't have). So if we only want level 1 spawns we would be good to go right now but our faction qualifies to do level 2 spawns so myyyyyyyy vote is to hold out until we have 5k spare respect... which we don't.

Perhaps we could split the difference and upgrade to OC2.0 when we get 50k respect. Continuing to work on our members' CE with higher level OC1.0 spawns I feel is best for now.

Reason why casual noobs matter

Do you think a new player can save for a rented pi while taking xan and a refill just off crime and oc?

My point is more about the avg new player won't have the money to make optimal moves or build wealth without handouts

Asemov [2270413]

So here's the thing.

Optimal play isn't mandatory. It's desired - Something to work towards.

And unfortunately, to reach the "desired" optimal way to play; you often need to jump into multiple revenue sources, and get creative to get yourself there.

But yes, a new player was able to do it when I started - And I didn't have much guidance early on, and my options and variety for making money were a lot fewer.

Organized Crimes? You didn't make a dollar until you got into a PA team.

Crimes? You were likely stealing jackets, which you could sell to collectors.

Ranked Warring? Didn't exist.

Bumbi [3177056]

and to add to this even if you have OC 2.0 unlocked, most of them can only do level one and level two crimes, it takes time to build up your crime experience. The payouts aren't that great, certainly not enough to cover the falling flying income.

Rickie192 [3453470]

You are right that its not mandatory and the game would suck if it was. But it would be nice if it stayed at least possible

Asemov [2270413]

You're missing my point.

It is possible, you have a much larger variety of revenue sources than I did 6 years ago and a much larger faucet than was available 6 years ago, and the meta around 2 xanax + an energy refill desirability hasn't changed.

(My blue name is deceiving cause I only this & last year spent any real money on Torn beyond a monthly subscription)

If you follow the various new player guides around how to make money, I almost guarantee you, you will generate enough revenue to split a Private Island with your spouse, and sustain 2 xanax a day + an energy refill.

Here's an examples, cause I do recognize flying income has dropped, but here me out.

  • 2 flights to South Africa a day to pickup Xanax = $4.4M/day income (10 excursion perks, airstrip, large suitcase) = $136.4M/mo

Assuming that's all you do, you're still netting enough to pay for your PI rental (w/ a spouse) & your xanax + energy refill each day (You might feel miserable at the end of the month only having about $12-$15M leftover, but you're still able to maintain that "optimal" playstyle), but I imagine you would not only be doing that.

You would also likely:

  • Be doing crimes (I would recommend burglary, or you could keep pickpocketing open on a second monitor, but who wants to do that)
  • Participating in Organized Crimes (I know the L1 & L2's don't generate a TON, but it helps)
  • Perhaps join a Ranked Warring faction to further supplement your income (Don't get hooped into a cache farm, unless they're taking care of you)
yewnit [2592654]

All is working according to plan; normal money-making methods are being nerfed into the ground, which makes buying DPs more lucrative. Ched gets to buy his 563th yatch and we get...uh... yea it's a win-win.

And to everyone saying crimes 2.0 and OC 2.0 help noobs make money easier... how long do you think until they get enough crime skill to do lv7+ OCs or one of the nonexistant very-profitable 2.0 crimes, where the payout starts getting decent?

Compared to flying at lv 15 (doable in like 3 days?) for a once-steady 3m+ per day?

seintz [2460991]

you idea of pawn shop will probably tank prices of plushies and flowers more since most people will use that to give a value to set..

just quit whining and put some effort into making money, there are so many ways for new players compared to a few years ago

Asemov [2270413]

Crimes 2.0 generates more revenue than Crimes 1.0 did at the early end, Burglary can be started relatively early on - And the Beach House is a profitable location & accessible right out the gate of the crime.

Crimes 1.0 you were likely stealing jackets, and selling them to a collector for a couple hundred thousand each week.

Oh I guess you could also sell beer each day for an extra $2M, which is something Chedburn took away from newer players (I will never forgive you Chedburn)
