If I put on a mix of Riot Armor (gives melee resist) and Assault Armor (gives bullet resist) do I get both effects or do I need to have a full set of the armor to get the special effect?

Like, if I have a Riot Chestplate and some Assault Pants, do I get both effects?

You get both, but note the effect only works on the area covered by that armour.

So in your example the melee resistance would only be applied to chest hits and the bullet resistance to leg hits.

Thanks for letting me know. I'll probably go for Assault Armor then once I can afford it; guns can have special ammo and attachments, but melee weapons can't.

Riot Helmet + Assault Chest & Pants with Combat gloves and boots is the bargain entry config.  Most prefer the Riot Helmet coverage vs Assault (and the Pepper Spray protection).

Crits (Head/throat/chest) are the biggest threats to mitigate.

10* Clothing Store armor boost works with mix n match pieces. -- This special increases the mitigation of your armor by 20%.
