Every player in Torn knows the frustration of cooldowns:
Med Cooldown
Drug Cooldown
Booster Cooldown

Cooldowns are necessary for balance, but they also limit how hard you can push during wars, grinding, or training.

Meanwhile, Torn’s book system is designed to provide unique, temporary advantages, a rare opportunity to bend the rules of the city.

So here’s my proposal:

New Book Concept: "No Rest for the Wicked"
Effect: Removes all cooldowns (med, drug, booster)
Balance: Overdose mechanics remain unchanged. You can push harder, but you still risk burning out.
Duration: 7 days (31 days would be too overpowered)
Availability: A normal book, but much harder to come by compared to others
Tradable: No (as with all books)

Why This Works

  1. High-Risk, High-Reward Gameplay
Players can go full throttle for a week, chain harder, train faster, or push limits. The OD risk means it’s still dangerous, not a free ride.

  2. Faction and Event Strategy
Imagine factions timing this book during wars or events, an entire squad going all gas, no brakes for seven days. Creates memorable, high-stakes windows of intensity.

  3. Balanced by Scarcity
Unlike a Legendary, this book would not be common. It should be significantly harder to find than most others, making it a special opportunity without flooding the game.

Example In-Game Entry
Book: No Rest for the Wicked
“The city never sleeps, and neither should you. Tear through meds, down bottles, and pop pills like tomorrow doesn’t exist. But remember, death doesn’t care how fast you’re moving when it comes knocking.”

Effect: Removes all cooldowns (med, drug, booster) for 7 days. Does not prevent overdoses.
Availability: Rare and difficult to obtain
Tradable: No

Community Question
Would you want to see No Rest for the Wicked added as a new book in Torn?

Balance and Benefits
The purpose of this book isn’t to break Torn’s systems, but to add new dimensions of gameplay that fit Torn’s high-risk, high-reward style.

  1. Short-Term Power, Not Permanent Advantage
The effect only lasts for 7 days. That makes it a temporary burst rather than an ongoing advantage. It creates moments of intensity rather than long-term imbalance.

  2. Risk Still Exists
Drugs still carry overdose risks, and pushing cooldowns faster means players will inevitably take more chances. It’s not a “free pass” it’s gambling with higher stakes. Torn has always rewarded those who risk big, and this fits perfectly with that philosophy.

  3. Faction Strategy and Excitement
This book would open new strategic options for factions. Imagine timing its use for a war week, where one or two players become engines of destruction. It wouldn’t guarantee victory, but it would create thrilling and memorable battles. It also adds unpredictability opponents won’t know when someone might unleash a “no cooldown” run.

  4. Endgame Variety
For veteran players, books are one of the few ways to shake up gameplay. A rare book like this gives long-time players something new to chase, while still being rare enough that it won’t dominate Torn’s daily balance.

  5. Market Dynamics Without Trading
Even though books can’t be sold or traded, their existence adds depth to Torn’s ecosystem. Players will talk about them, plan around them, and brag when they finally get one. Rarity keeps it exciting, while the short effect prevents it from being oppressive.

In short: No Rest for the Wicked wouldn’t remove danger or permanently unbalance Torn, it would create a rare, intense experience that adds energy to the game. It’s the kind of feature people would look forward to using once in a while, not something that would overwhelm the game every day.

I mean you can't stack books, but even on its own it's ridiculous.

Reduce drug cooldown? Sure, would be one of the best books but not totally broken.

Reduce med cooldown? Next island war is calling.

Reduce consumables cooldown? It already exists.

No cooldowns at all for any category though..?

For reference, Ugly E is one of the most expensive books to use, as it requires 129 FHC to be used optimally. This costs roughly $1.4-1.6bn, depending on when in the year you buy FHCs, and produces 12,900E extra across the month.

This book, if you spent the same ~$1.5bn on Goose Juice at ~$310k per, would provide an extra 38,700E in a single day with zero risk. But it's not just $1.5bn, it's however much you can stock. Not to mention, "all cooldowns" would also include items like SEs, meaning someone could cap out their stats in seconds given enough preparation. This is above even a M'aol relic.

This also doesn't mention the unlikelihood of a super special book being given a different drop rate and duration from other books.

I'm guessing this is just another GPT post I'm wasting time legitimately answering, but the concept was so ridiculous I wanted to do the math anyway.

Imagine this along with the infinite eCans relic.

You'd only be limited by physical time, just keep chugging 30e cans all day during caffeine con until your mouse/screen breaks.

Way too OP. Even for a single day.

Maybe a cooldown reduction by a large %, but unlimited is a no go.

And if you did it based on a reduction it should still be limited with 1 book per cooldown type.

Maybe pair Booster/Med cooldown in one book, Drug/Med in a different. But not all 3 in one with unlimited use lol.

I get where you are coming from and honestly I agree with most of what you said. If the book just completely removed cooldowns with no strings attached it would be ridiculous. The Goose Juice and SE math makes that clear. People could prep for months and then dump everything in a single day which would obviously ruin balance.

But I do not think the idea has to be thrown out completely. What I was imagining was not unlimited use. More like giving you a set number of cooldown skips per day.

For example
You could ignore cooldowns maybe 5 or 10 times in a day and then after that things go back to normal. That way you get some bursts of extra use when it matters most like during a chain or a big war day but you cannot just spam 200 items back to back.

This keeps the book rare and valuable while still being strategic. It gives players a chance to push harder for a week but within limits that stop it from being abused. To me that makes it fun and worth chasing without breaking the game.

If you wouldn’t mind allowing me to make some adjustments to it and rereading it I’d like a possibility of a second chance to earn a thumbs up.

dont know where you got 8 brainless people to upvote this. But this would be so OP even for a day as others say. If drug didnt gave me a cooldown for a day I would spend all my fortune into xanax use it on my day off. I would proceed to take xanax every single minute of the next 24 hours and train them all and push myself few years ahead of the curve, as would everyone with a functioning brain.

I think I could take like 70-80k xanax in that single day (I have 4k so far) then I would just white egg the negative stuff i would get from using so much drugs.

And do you know how much this would change the market prices of xanax cans etc.?
