When you remove the scripts and muggers have to start thinking for themselves, this is what will happen. 

I'd have digged into it a bit more before going on gd, it appears to be a once in a while thing, which was triggered by a game mistake, how is this bug abuse

When are we going to get a reputable CR lead to comment on the fact that a member of their faction family is posting absolute brain dead content on torn city dot com forward slash forums? 

Apparently Xedx forgot to include the illegal "think before you buy mug" option in his scripts.

On further reflection, it looks like this is in fact an intended game mechanic, albeit a pretty silly one in my opinion. I apologise for any misunderstanding this may have caused and I'll be editing the title and main post accordingly.

Thanks for editing the post upon your further reflection, lol. However, considering we're in the same alliance and meant to be friendly with CR, you could've just asked Sqall or myself what was going on. Sprinting to make this post as your first move is a bit shitty, dont ya think.

Everyone ranting about script muggers but I'd be pretty pissed if I bought 3b of stuff expecting a big mug and it wasn't there due to negative balance (can only happen due to cheating or staff edits like this one with the bookie).

Buymugging is a pretty big part of the game - and whenever someone suggests an easy vault, you see tons of people booing them saying "it's a part of the game get used to it" but it doesn't seem that way if the response from actual staff is "there are lots of ways people can money on hand, go get a money spy." Let's be real no one is money spying someone that they are about to buymug. Even setting aside cost, just taking the time to find a money spy often will cause you to miss buymugs.

I understand if that answer is that "we have to fix things and this is an unfortunate consequence" but that's not the same as "Lol noob mugger why aren't you getting a spy to check they don't have negative balance before mugging" which just isn't reasonable really.

maybe the question instead should be "why do torn staff take money away because they/their odds provider made a mistake", i do agree that it's a bit shitty to expect a decent mug and not get one, but the players are just making the best of a bad situation too :p

It's 25E, if they overspent on the product that's just getting big brained in a similar way to how they thought they were big braining the rats.

Yeah I'm not saying this is Derv or Squall doing anything in bad faith, I'm moreso talking about the staff response whenever this comes up.

I wouldn't say buymugging someone is "big braining" them, and given that there's no way to get a negative balance without it explicitly being set by staff / game, it also seems fair to expect that you are supposed to get a mug if you buymug someone (and they don't log online to bank it). I mean isn't this why mug protection was removed?

While I (kind of) see your point from a "buy mugger's" stance.  You're also forgetting the fact that the victims here are people who made legitimate bets (not exploits, not abused) and lost billions.  They then turned around and put up items to try to recover their ON HAND negative balance and the immediate response from a buy mugger is "They're abusing/cheating!!"

I really don't have any empathy for the buy mugger in situations like this where the actual victims are out FAR more because of a very poor Staff decision in the first place.  Your post is basically meaningless in this situation.

Accounts with negative cash in hand should have some sort of marker.

As you said the vast majority of negative cash in hand accounts are from staff deductions due to cheating (obviously not the case here) and for someone to come back and then bait a mugger to make a profit from their cheating is wild

Sure, I get you. I wouldn't like to be accused of cheating either. But I'm talking about a more general scenario where the staff response to them adjusting a person's balance to negative and upsetting game mechanics isn't "sorry it was our best option" but instead "you should get a money spy".

Unfortunately I can't make this point on threads where the buymugger didn't get mad and make a post on account of them not existing, so I made it here instead.
