If a faction gains loot from an OC, why are they forced to pay for the loot they rightfully stole? Do y'all understand how crime works?

IndyCision [2597200]

The faction doesn't pay for the loot - it goes into your armoury as soon as the OC automatically initiates (if it was successful)

The "payout" button is just you deciding to give the members who took part a split of the rewards.

I don't think the issue is that we all don't understand how crime works, but that you are misunderstanding how the OCs work. Happy to talk you through it if you want to DM me :)

Luke_Warmwater [2388575]

If we gain cans or pixie sticks, the values are deducted from the Faction funds in the armory. Same with vehicles and Xanax. The payout is a financial one only, but I'm not talking about that. We steal things, yet are forced to buy them. This is why I'm asking for clarification as to why a faction steals things during an OC, yet has to pay for what they stole.

Youre paying your members for a successful job, not the items...then you can resell the items if you want the cash back or use them for events/chains/etc.

You aren't paying for the items.

IndyCision [2597200]

When you completed that OC the pixie stix and cans went into your armoury.

On the "payout" button you can select "pay out in items" or "pay out the value of items"

If you do the "payout items" - it will randomly give out those items from your armoury to the people who obtained them and remove them from the armoury when it sends them.

If you do the payout the "value of the items" - it leaves the items in the armoury (for you to manually remove and sell to get $$$) and removes the payout percentage of the current market value of those items from your armoury instead

It does not automatically fence the items to give them cash, it is just an easy way for you to divide up the value of the items which are still sat in your faction armoury.

Edit: And if you don't want to give your faction members any payment for OCs which give items, just set the payout to 0% or don't click it at all :)

I dug back a bit through our logs to find an example:

If you look at the date/time stamps you can see the two OCs were automatically completed (at which point the items were deposited into the faction armory)

Later on, the payout buttons for both crimes were clicked, using a "pay 80% of the items value" option

We were not "paying for those items" again, we were giving the OC participants 80% of how much those items are worth.

The items were all still in our inventory, which we then removed and sold on the market.

Total faction money was "up" by 100% of the items value, with 80% of that being allocated to the participants and 20% being unassigned profits

The items we collected during this OC may not have been deducted, so if that's the case I'm in error. However, here's a table of what happened, and I have screenshots to support it. It appears the money award for the OC is not borne by the Torn system, but by the Faction's bank account. The numbers match up.

The items were placed in your faction armory upon completion of the OC. You then chose to payout an equivalent of 85.71% of the item *values* to the participants, while the items remained in your armory.

If this only happens on loot-gaining OCs (and I think it does), then we'll circle back to where we started--the definition of what theft is. The OC members ripped somebody off, fair and square, and the faction therefore shouldn't have taken the loss for their success. It's pairing up functions of the game with near-real-life. You steal stuff, you steal money, and your crime syndicate (the faction) doesn't get a deduction from the government for it. It's pure and outright theft, and government confiscation isn't part of it.

WaywardSquid [2330087] Officer Officer

This is not a bug, it is how the system is intended to work at this time. As described above, if the faction chooses to pay out equivalent money to the crime team in lieu of items, the faction can choose to sell the items to recoup the value if they desire.

OriginalValjean [2934750]

Be aware that if you don't have the necessary faction armory unlocked you can't get at the items you stole. That might be why you feel like your faction has lost money. It will have gained the items but they may be hidden from you.

This aspect is a tad annoying of course!

Edit: added detail

  1. Faction commits crime by stealing pixie stix and ecans. Faction value increases as it now has these items added to it's armory (but may be hidden). Not the monetary value, the items themselves.
  2. Faction choose to pay the members who commited the crime. Say 80% payout. Faction dollar decrease by 80% of value but faction still has 100% of the value of the items stolen, as items.
  3. Faction is 20% better of from value of items; crime nembers are 80% better off from value of items.
