Price of points under $30,000. PROBLEM??

Low price means fliers are doomed. RIP my Flying Income, am i rite?

These days, most players, especially new and chill players make "active" money via flying, revives or war hits. Rank war payments have been nerfed a few weeks ago, revives were nerfed long time ago, and now with the ever decreasing price of points due to high supply but low demand... how are these players gonna make money?

All I see is Ched trying to do this year is squeeze the money from all players - the rich, the poor, the new, the chill, literally everyone! What's the goal here Ched? Fighting inflation??!

OR HOPING FOR AN INCREASE IN DONATIONS/ DONATOR PACK SALES??!

Ched is by no means trying to get more donations. He obviously has a genuine passion for his game and wants it to remain playable for everyone. Sometimes that means making decisions that some people just can’t seem to understand. The game has been successful and welcoming to new players for two decades thanks to proper management.

I would have agreed with the sentiment a few days ago, but Ched just dropped some valuable crime items overseas for cheap so…

13:21:06 - 26/09/25 You bought 38x Hydrochloric Acid at $24,250 each for a total of $921,500 from Japan

17:14:35 - 26/09/25 You sold 38x Hydrochloric Acid on the item market to Bugrahan_yildiz at $272,888 each for a total of $9,851,256 after $518,488 in fees

I do appreciate Ched for what he has done, and inb4 Bogie pull out some numbers on how the number of players have been growing and all, but in the last 2 years, Ched has been more focused on restricting the amount of money that comes into the Torn Economy (Ched or the infamous Economist Wolf, I don't know).

Right now, the OC money is great, income from bank interest is still very good, but rather than that, unless you are a hyper active player, the same "chill" player makes less money now than they used to 2 years ago.

Genuinely want to know what he is trying to achieve. Is he doing this for an ulterior motive or is something big about to come? (in the next 5 or 10 years of course)

You probably know that better than me.

Trying to get more donations AND having the best interests for the game as you say can both be true though?

Robbo [1826175]

People say Torn is a crime game but that is false, its a warring game. Stats, money, activity, all serve one purpose which is warring.

The primary reason we see for factions not warring or win trading is real wars are too expensive.

I cant take the economy seriously when we're in a place its too epensive for real wars

Laceyfacey [3871342]

Wild how all the biggest complainers about the points drop falling cite new player experience but are almost all extremely rich veterans.

I doubt the new players even notice or care... point hoarders and traders, on the other hand...

Sure looks like all the new players have absolutely no disposable income, poor things must be really hurting to even so much as afford a PI rental!

Sulsay [2173590] Tester

Sure both can be true. But OP makes it sound as if it’s inherently bad to push for more donations. To me it sounds like a great deal either way. Ensure the game’s survival by keeping the economy healthy AND funding new development.

When I was a new player, my income sources were selling losses,  meagre chain payouts if I placed high in a chain, selling beers (600k a day when beers were 6k for one), and flying when points were 50-60k

Nowadays a new player has many more income sources (even if some of them may not be readily apparent to them). Buying gasoline in bits and bobs gets you 100k a day easily. No one needs to follow guides telling you how to refresh as soon as it's a quarter hour tick. You have income from search for cash right away, which gives plenty of items including drugs items that can be sold for decent prices, you can shoplift meds from pharmacy and armor/weapons from big als. The organised crimes actually pay out decent, ranked wars are fun and pay out well. When i was a newbie, wendy and a few others were the only weapons traders because it was a stale market.  These days it's a happening place with weapons and armors with many bonuses being sold by players of all ages and activity.

Mercs as an income source didn't really exist in a meaningful way earlier. Its not the best income for new players i guess, but an income for all player types. It needed to be balanced, but still seems to be going strong.

Torn is probably wayyy more accessible than ever before. People focus on points too much when there have been a lot more money sources opened up to players before and since.

I have always been a free to play player and spent most of my Torn life in faction we brought up from low respect focusing on newbies and I never felt buying dp's was ever required to play or be competitive. They're a nice boost, and sure, someone with a 2b bank at the start is going to have an easier time of it, but there's many many ways to bridge the gap, quite easily.

The combined outfall of nerfing points, museum, travel business and bazaars, in combination with not nerfing scripting abuse by large IM traders, has been negative Meta, overall.

It can be fixed.

Just look at the drastic change to Racing that Torn has just had.

One contemplative decision by the Game, and, poof, elation.

Abetting [2016807]

If they are pushing for more donations purchases without a reason other than increasing profit it's simply greed.

If they are pushing for more purchases due to increased overhead from the game advancing in various areas or increased staff, then they should not be pushing themselves to advance too quickly or hiring so much staff that they are forced to quietly kill the game economy hoping it drives up purchases. That's both greed and irresponsibility.

If they just don't know what they are doing, that's at least honest, but I doubt it seeing as he's been at it for over two decades.

No matter how you cut it, they seem to be making questionable choices. It should be expected to receive criticism and backlash. They have made a multitude of poorly received changes and now the economy is going down the drain on top of it. At some point, perhaps listening to the people who actually play the game should become more common practice, as with pretty much all games that go on to be successful.

Torn seems to value it's success based in new players coming in, but that's solely from deceiving advertising, advertising that is expensive and probably one of the driving factors of why they are doing this, to try and strongarm players to spend more and help cover the ad budget. However those methods will likely only get you so far and I would assume there is an event horizon where you end up doing more damage than good.
