From the announcement:

There are benefits to placing items prior to ignition compared with using them to stoke the fire after ignition. Placing combustibles prior to ignition gives a 1.25x bonus to their spread, while stoking with combustibles after ignition gives a 1.25x bonus to their intensity.

Intensity and spread do both grow on their own from momentum; it might be that the "optimal" play here is to douse waaay more before you light up? That would consistently use a large amount of resources, whereas lighting early and adding more fuel afterwards is riskier (hosp/jail possibility) but reduces the total resources you need to commit.

The crit fails in text do still seem to represent you putting fuel on the fire, you're just also injuring yourself in the process (as opposed to, like, tripping over outside and spilling your gasoline on the pavement or something) so it does make sense it'd still push progress even if it hosps you.

Hey CloudJumper,

Thanks for your input!

It still doesn't answer my question why a fire would indicate as being in full force and then gets stuck. I understand that a fire might extinguish partially and needs stoking, but why would a fire that is indicated with full flames need stoking, that doesn't make any sense... Wouldn't the flame ndication need to 'reduce' in that case? Or maybe I am misinterpreting the flame symbol?

Each flame represents an area of the target. If there are two areas, the biggest fire in a single area will not cause damage in the other area, unless the fire spreads to that area.

Likewise, the damage will not spread to parts of individual areas if there is no fire there. So, if the fire is covering 97% of the area, the damage can only ever reach up to 97%. You must ensure the fire's intensity persistantly covers the full area in order to achieve 100% damage.

Makes sense! Just got to get the strategies dialled in, which'll take a while to figure out actually.

It is clear now why so much time went into this crime.

Though several timrs i have had only 1 area (flame picture), a very big flame that I don't think I want to stoke,  but stuck at 95%.

A bit of trial and error for now then if it is behaving as it is meant to.

I do like this crime though thank you.

Thanks for the feedback, Ched.

At least now I know that I can't trust the flame indication to see whether a fire is going to go to 100%, but I need to monitor how fast it is increasing damage and whether it stops somewhere.

Can't wait to unlock more of the crime, it seems very involved, which is great.

If I had to guess, there is a damage per tick, a max damage possible number based on fuel used, and fire duration values.

That's not the case because today I experienced the same issue in a shack, which only has one area, and presumably quite flammable.

The fire icon suggested that the intensity was high, not reducing, yet the destruction stopped at 95%.

I understand the solution is is to stoke but the logic doesn't make sense.

Why would a very intense fire stop destructing a wooden shack?

DieselBlade [1701621] Wiki Contributor

Just tested again and replicated.

Two gas and then ignite. Destruction stops at 95% despite an intense fire. The icon shows that the intensity has started to decrease,  but it's still an intense fire..

the structural skeleton of the building could still be intact, IE the fire easily destroys all the combustible elements of the building but the brickwork etc is still standing as a ruined husk

Korten [290467]

It's a gamified metric, relative to the amount of fire needed to destroy that target...
This is up there with redundant crap to argue about.

Unless of course you're a professional arsonist, and you're just getting overzealous about your passion.

Blazeon [2856659]

for total destruction

2 flames need 5-6 gasolines

1 flames need 3-4 gasolines

never did 3 and 4 flames

if the responder is close and you are still have long way from 100%, try stoke again or add another gas (high risk depend on how big is the fire)

I am confused.  It only shows  collected if you succeed.  Is it possible you simply needed more nerve to collect the fee?
