If you join the same company or a company of the same type the points carry over. But let's say you've spent a year in a clothing store and want to move to a mining corporation you will have a points balance for each job.
You can use your clothing store job points in a clothing store, but not in another type of company. It's very similar to the starter jobs. Army points don't transfer over to the medical profession but if you ever move back to the army your points will remain there to be used.
