This may have been answered elsewhere, and apologies if it has. But I can see my position in battle stats, however wondered if any of the clever techie guys have done a script that shows your position amongst active players? I.e active in last month or so
As I am fully aware that over 20 years there are a lot of inactive players above me

There's no way of doing it reliably. Best option would be to rely on predictors like BSP of FFscouter and try to build something like that. But that's quite a bit of effort for unclear benefit, so i doubt anyone would be up for it (you can try Glasnost though).
Go to the hall of Fame and you should be able to see your ranking among all players in Torn.
We are searching it among the active players tho. On HoF there is a likelyhood of someone inactive above you.
Given that the battlestats section has everyone redacted, you wouldn't be able to do this programmaticaly. TDup could potentially do that with his information on the BSP guesser. Unless you're talking about another section in the HoF which should be possible to find your ranking amongst only active players.

To be honest you are right that would be better to know that instead of having a lot of inactive account on top of us
