Hey all, I know arson has been discussed relatively throughly, but are we under the impression it’s the most nerve intensive crime? I was a late adopter to crimes 2.0, and while it’s CERTAINLY more fun, it’s way less profitable. That being said, my nerve bar is lacking due to the late swap. I started 2.0 with a 50nnb, and am now at 60 (68 with merits). I’ve been working through arson, disposal, etc… but have found arson is just taking SO LONG. I have some extra red eggs, so I just popped one. Had about 309 nerve when I began. I spent it all on arson. Stoking, dampening, etc.. in a balance with completing one gas/light/collect jobs.

at the end of the 309 nerve, I had gone from 51.4 skill to 52.02. It just seems like such a ridiculously slow grind with 68 nerve and beer vs disposal, card skimming, etc..

Crimes 2.0 is more profit depending what you do. hacking was the best before per nerve but i bet if you really tried you could make more per nerve in 2.0.

regarding arson i do feel like it does cost more for less income but ive not checked my torn report

Hello Mr. Dear Leader.

This wasn’t so much oriented towards the profitability, just that I’ve noticed the skill gain is really slow compared to other crimes. Is this the progression we can expect as newer (and, I’d imagine, harder) crimes continue to be released?

Im actually finding arson to be noticeably more profitable since the buff, and have actually turned a profit the last few days from it.

Albertoo [114591]

That’s where my confusion came from. I felt like in disposal, I can gain 10 skill with relatively low nerve in a day. I’ve been here on and off for 20 years, so I don’t mind the slow grind. Just seems drastically slower (which, as you mentioned, isn’t particularly bad) in comparison with other crimes.

I did it super inefficiently nerve wise, and to get from 0-100 it took 40,470 nerve. im betting that the next ones will continue to take more and more nerve

4,229 green actions and I am level 74, prob another 3,500 or so to level 100. Call it 7,500 X 5 nerve an action = 37,500 nerve divide that by how much nerve you put down a day.

Albertoo [114591]

That tracks for sure.

as I said, I’m relatively new to 2.0 (I switched the week after arson, I think), so I’m still getting my bearings, but just an observation I had.

Like, with disposal, I’m at 74 skill with 322 green actions (and only a 90% success rate because I didn’t read the guide first) with 3300 or so nerve spent.

In arson, I just hit 52 skill with 2033 green actions, only 4 crit fails, and almost 7k nerve spent.

It sure would be nice to have the +40 nerve faction perk and the CE progression here.

You imagine that every crime will be harder and harder... I wonder if this is true? Will they add some simple crimes to improve the early variety for the newbies as well? I understand that this is not a question for you, but I cannot believe that it will be constantly growing profit or difficulty wise.

Albertoo [114591]

I asked the question, so I’m probably not the right one to answer it, but that would track with the progression of crimes 1.0.

With exception of market conditions creating high-profit, low nerve crimes (big box of chocolate, Colina Tanprice, etc.. on 1.0, and oxygen tanks, hydrogen, sand, thermite, etc.. on crimes 2.0), crimes got harder and more profitable for the most part the higher you went up the chain.

medutis88 [3721610]

Sure, but my point is, how far can you go? If you increase the profits with every new iteration, eventually you are creating a big gap between newcomers and the old players. I just wonder if this is the effect that the game creators are going for. Some games do, where they simply raise the income of newly added game features and add some expensive stuff to sink all the newly generated money. But is this the torn model, I'm not sure.

I expect the next crime to be simple and disappointing :D. Not in a sense that it will be bad or badly thought out, but I would imagine that it will be a small step backwards from the "always growing" paradigm. It will be interesting to see, what happens.

Have seen 36-45K range to level 100 dependent on efficiency. So yes, it is towards more efficient end but not outside of possible realm.

CockyNudist [2209950]

It has been slightly better than forgery for me since I stopped doing the crappy arson jobs.

*I didn't do passports on forgery through, just drivers licenses and license plates, so forgery could be a bit more efficient than my graph shows.

Indefatigable [2517458]

Hey OP.  Good question.  Unsolicited opinion is you should work the crimes a logical order.  Get SFC done anyways.  The rest just do most profitable crimes and be nerve efficient.

Love the grind.  I do only the arsons that pay.  So the ones with < or > or both.  Means about 3 or 4 a day.  Then spend rest on cracking and scamming and some burglary.

Probably will take 6 months at least to get from 70 where I am at now to 100.  No rush.

narO [2312928]

What if arson was made to be a high CE crime instead of worrying about it being more pay? Are real world arsonists in it for the money like scammers, burglars and pickpockets? I feel like an arsonist probably looks at their work like an art and care more about the finer details, maybe it would make sense for it to be a crime that might have lower $/N but good CE/N, and if we knew thats what it did, spending money on the items might not feel as bad.
