This is not a cry for help, or trying to get attention.  I am genuinely torn whether or not to continue playing Torn.  Pun intended.

I'm old.  I'm tired.  I travel a lot for work, and I am endlessly losing my soul to boardrooms, contracts, and budgets.  I also suck at Torn.  I am not on Discord (by choice), I don't have a real hard strategy or goal (other than to be Top 10 for bounties collected)...and RWs kinda suck.

Can you share any personal stories about times when the game got stale, or lost its joy and how you got it back?

Have anything else to share on the topic?  Or, maybe you just want to ask me for my stuff?  Probably that.

Happy New year, Torn.  I wish you all the best and hope for minimal trolling here.

IndyCision [2597200]

Keep your stuff safe for if you do go and then come back :)

The burn out can be real - just think if there was any specific part of the game which you enjoyed more than anything else, and just play around that. Make simply fun your goal, instead of having a specific target.

Edit: One thing I am keeping "in the back pocket" for if the game gets stale, is I quite like the idea of creating my own CT map - I haven't done it yet because I know I would spend so much time doing it that I wouldn't be doing much else, so am leaving it until my own burn out periods...

I have a plan for when I get bored of regular torn I'm going to become a full time reviver. Until then I'm just focused on growing BS and networth innit brev.

Pakliuvom [1676337]

I get it. I think most of us have felt that way, and most of us have probably taken a break, even if it was just a short one. Sometimes that's all you need. If you do take a break, don't give yourself some arbitrary deadline on when you'll return, just take it day by day, and one day, maybe even as far along as a year or two, without even thinking much about it, you'll just log in, ready to go again, and everything will look new again.

I quit for a few years, only logging in when my spouse badgered me to do so. When I came back, I had a new vigor to try new things and get back into it.

If you're burned out, there's no shame in taking a break. Just make sure you move out of your property and into a shack and then pay off any duke loans beforehand. Also cancel your subscription.

I’ve played on and off since 2008-ish.

if RL is busy and you need a break, prioritise RL.

if you’re burned out and want a break, take that break.

the whole point of playing a game is to have fun, if you ain’t having fun then don’t play it.

you will be back, but no one can tell you what to do apart from yourself bro.

Viciously_Grim [2752611]

Join a smaller faction where you don't get lost?

Perhaps you got stuck in the min-max loop, which isn't necessarily fun for you. You can always... just not do that. There's really no rules.

You don't have to be in politics in Torn, you don't have to be in boring wars, you don't have to war at all, or be in a big faction, or a small faction, or be in Diamond where you're just a small fish, you can be in Bronze and be the only big fish, or Gold and be a shark with a small number of other sharks and a bunch of fish, perhaps pirhhanas that do most of the warring while you keep the other sharks in check.

It's totally fine to swap up your game play to suit your IRL needs.

For example, whenever I have anxiety, I start drama in Torn so I'm not doing self defeatist behavior IRL. 🙃

You can also move into trading, or mugging, or gambling, or training noobs, or switch from war to gym training 100% of the time.

You can even cycle through different things and see what fits your play time allotment and mental health needs.

Sometimes you gotta retire from the things you love. I used to be on my Xbox all the time playing with my buddies. I haven’t touched my Xbox for 2-3 years now… haven’t watched any anime for 5 years. Cannot be bothered to get back into either of those, one day it’ll call my name.

Rafale [3001212]

First, the most important, I can take care of some of your stuff :)

Second, I recommend joining edu job for work points, firing staff from PI and equiping cattle prod when going away for longer period of time.

And come back for Halloweek, it might be fun to use inactivity refills all at once.

Lantian [3029152]

I am nowhere near "old enough" in Torn to have the same burnout feeling as some of you, but what makes me come back everyday is the friends I made, especially in my faction.

Just maybe, try guesting in other factions and meet new people, you never know, but might find home (again?).

Michi [1922819]

I think feeling like you aren't good at Torn is what makes you feel burnt out. Seeing so many people get more stats, money, respect etc and you have to log out to go to another meeting where your boss rants about how he sees dead people. There's no such thing as not being good at Torn as you are the one that defines that. You might never ever see 2 trillion battle stats but you might be the top for something else.

It's about having your own pace if you have to step away for a while, then do it. But you can also dial back on how much you login until you find the next thing that reels you in.

Edit: Oh yeah can I has ur stuffs

Wood [2175573]

I was there myself about a year and some change ago. Had been in the same faction since my 6th day in Torn and was really wondering why I was doing anything. After contemplating and discussing with my IRL missus who is my in-game missus, we decided to buy a small cache farm place and just throw ourselves into helping new players and small-scale faction leadership.

It hasn't been a cake walk, but it's been really fulfilling for me to pass on my knowledge. People who I recruited over a year ago are now boasting of their stat growth, money growth, various accomplishments, etc. And they always seem really happy.

While this may not be what you find fulfilling, consider what parts of the game you really enjoy and are good at and do that. It's a game. While some part of us likes to see numbers go BRRR, if you find it most fulfilling to revive, trade, run a business, or simply post in a certain thread of forum, do that. Life forces us to do to much because we have to. Find ways to get to do what you want to.

lockup [3300790]

Don't leave.

From the prompt that is your post, someone new to you is going to start communicating with you, and that communication is going to be like a B12 shot. It will feel amazingly refreshing.

They may want to learn about the game from you, they might just find your account interesting.

But to keep it real, one does not have to reach your time in the game to discern that Torn gets mentally harder for some of us, if we start to feel really isolated. Which can happen when we're not commiserating   communicating with someone cool.

LTJELLOMAN [1161626]

I've hit this feeling a lot, I think the social part of torn is locked to just factions these days.

It seems only make numbers go up matters to everyone. I knew one day during my grind Id run into I don't have time to make for torn so I always took that motivation to reach a point of where I'm now, which is trying to spend as little time on torn as I can, but spending the time doing what I want to do.

I think over the last 3 years we've all been slowly falling into "what am i still playing for" and I think its just try and find what you enjoy, goals you wanna get too, or people you wanna be around helps. I think more community events will help, or more time to let ched and co figure out some helpful changes, but even if you do quit I hope you at least try to keep getting the xanax in because it is just a thing we can do with 5 mins a day.

-Bald-Ronin- [2973179]

I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure .. lol

Seriously though, if you're thinking about it .. commit to it .. for say a week or two .. see if you miss it .. (but keep all your stuff and get in a City job)

Then if you fancy coming back .. change your play style .. but like someone else said .. it's just a game .. if you're not enjoying it go and touch some grass, or do something else !!

... but we all know how addictive Torn can be !!!

🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍

OP

there are several parts to your story that all directly impact your current state of mind. I wont bullshit here.

1 you have a blue name, assuming you did this at the start you have gone balls deep into hardcore training from the go get. if that is an accurate assumption you missed out an important part of the game, building your cash, weapns etc .. all you left yourself was The Grind.

2 your detailed stats are impressive, this would indicate you play torn a LOT

3 you work hard in rl citing boardrooms and travel

4 you are in literally the top fac in torn, im guessing you rw every week and you are under orders for maxing xan use thuis also have to keep the addiction down.

i would suggest you have burn out

obviously rl comes first. HoF facs are addictive and the teamwork and play are great fun.

Speak to your fac friends and leaders and explain you want to take a few months down time. i do not mean stop playing but considering quitting your faction for a month or so. keep you job or switch to a system job and basically log in when you want.

i agree with 'rw's suck' but if you quit the fac for a month it wont matter. but we all know the warring system is lame af.

I think the trick is to understand that torn can be boring, ppl can be tedious and sometimes you simply dont want to talk, war or train.

I am currently going thru the same thing myself, its actually extremely relaxing, log in with zero responsibiliies. shout at newbs, casual train, collect the stonk passives, watch the balance rise.  and zero f**ks given.

take care fella
