So, to cut a long story short, a friend got me into Torn as they were showing it to me and i found it interesting enough to join.

I did a lot of research as i was really getting into the game. I don't do as much now as i have my plan relatively figured out (for a long time at least).

One thing that has been noticed by me again and again though is that this game to me feels like EVE ONLINE but smaller basically.

Some simple aspects would be Training Offline, many thing in torn happen on a timer which keeps going while offline, much the same as training in EVE.

Many stats in both games are important, but currency ends up being a fundamental pillar in both. Can you get away without currency? sure, but the most advanced players probably have enough wealth to do almost anything they need to.

To me, both games are fundamentally about grinding currency and using that as your method to progress everything else faster.

Also the vibe of both games generally feels the same, it's a pool of players existing in a sandbox world where there is no real limit to what you can achieve within it's systems and so much of it revolves around the space and fights of the biggest dogs out there.

I could likely make more comparisons, but my biggest one if of course factions. I recently discovered Faction Families and how intertwined the top spots in the faction leaderboard are. Of course in EVE this reminds me of corporation coalitions and Sovereignty (as well as taking blocks in the city map for torn).

So as i've been drawing more relations to EVE that i am always happy to see (EVE is my go to MMO), i come here to ask how many other players here also see this game in a similar space to EVE, of course just in a different setting.

yes and no, this game seems more of a social f**k around with less at stake, whereas EVE you can play like an ass, and get thrown against a wall, here, you kindof get away with it

As a former EVE player, yes :) I definitely see the similarities in dynamics of play - even if the games aren't visibly or functionally similar.

Ever since i found torn, idk if i'd call it my main game since the timers exist, but i haven't missed a single day online thus far. Over like a 200 day streak or something

I suppose the social aspect is there, but Torn doesn't really have offline training, unless you're botting.

As for ranked wars, EVE has some of the biggest wars in MMO history, often mentioned in gaming articles, but also some of the brightest gamers I've ever had the priviledge to meet. Things might've changed in the past 10-15 years though.

I don't know how to do several quotes at once :p

It doesn't have ranked wars, but theres literally no leaderboards. Despite that, factions are still always at each others throats in a war for resources and space. I think the only way you can really track the most dominant faction in EVE is sovereignty maps, but that wouldn't show a factions bank, items or anything so theres no real way of knowing.

Glad to know it's not just me :D

EVE is definitely quite a toxic game for sure, but you learn to live with it. The toxicity in eve causes people to fight, but people on the same side are drawn closer by that same toxic atmosphere. EVE has a reputation of being a friend machine due to making people share the same awful experiences xD

Well, playing EVE as well, as a noob I can play more in the space, in Torn no much to do until I get some stats, job and faction.

And in Torn, ppl are attacking me randomly and except hiding money, i can’t do anything, just bite it and train more.

in Eve, I’m able to survive much better

yet, torn is now preferred to me as Eve turning more to pay to win game

EVE is the most passive aggressive game you will ever play. They lull you as a noob with fun missions and safe places to fly.. then boom. gank fest.

Torn has offline education timers, xanax timers, etc. Like eve, you don't need to do much more than login 5 times a day in Torn in order to max efficiency. In Eve, that's like once in up to 127 days depending on the skill being trained.

Unlike Torn though, eve has things to do 24/7, whereas with Torn, other than reading the forum, you are limited by finite resources and cooldowns in conjunction with the same. Mostly Torn can be played outside of Torn, like Eve, so there are many comparisons that are fair to make.

Eve holds their developers accountable for their actions. Torn doesn't seem to do that. Note: BOB devs who introduced t2 bpos illegally were all fired.

Eve was made unplayable by repeated developer nerfs over the years combined with selling to a chinese company, which then pushed p2w and ached for maximum profit possible. Torn nerfs have been consistent over the years but are occasionally offset by positive updates, which make the game better. There are pros and cons to both games but they are, graphics aside, completely different types of gameplay. both of which have toxic communities. Torn leans heavily to the left, banning people for behaving in ways that the developers don't like, even though acting within the framework of the advertised rules. Eve's rules are much more black and white, whereas staff in Torn post rules, say that they are unambiguous, then police said rules however the wind blows that day, and depending on feelings and community opinion. When asked for clarification on Torn rules, staff response is that they don't want to clarify so that way people don't circumvent rules. Ok.

Gameplay in Eve requires online activity. Massive amounts of it. Torn does not require this and does not reward incessent online activity. Torn is an NPC driven economy with artificial sources of cash inflows. Eve is a completely player driven market. Only non-seeded items in Torn are player driven and when players attempt to manipulate player driven items by item removal from the game (only means of doing this is a horse head), more player driven items are fabricated from the ether by staff.

From 2003-2018, I'd say Eve was incredibly superior to Torn by every possible metric. Today, I'd say Torn is a superior product, despite it's shortcomings, in all possible metrics except graphics and staff.

Either way, these games appeal to differing markets of nerds. One is number goes brrr. Other one is number goes brrr and shinies.

I'm surprised a eve min-maxer who has this game figured out, and doesn't have much to do anymore, didn't join a larger faction to be more efficient.

SoulRunner [3769393]

I actually care very little for efficiency. I did my research and am playing some parts efficiently i would say, from my limited game time, but i will still value how i want to play over efficiency.
