Wow thank you for sharing your factions history! That's a huge accomplishment to have gone from 5k to 10M R. You bring up some really good points about the rehab cost effecting you long term and recommendations on where to start R wise. I think one thing I'll do is go through the faction Perks and tally up how much R is required for certain perks to hopefully start without too many negatives. I wouldn't want to go completely bankrupt with using money as the main benefit

And it depends on your time dedication, I started the Shell now known as Shangri-la as a noob, was the sole leader for around 6 months, in the spring/summer of 2024. But holding a full time job that was an hour commute plus working 60+ hours a week on top of it, I wasn't really around when my players needed things like money. So after a string of war losses I decided to cash in and move on.

But I'm just an example of it not working out, if you've got the time, you can 100% be successful at running a shell. And running a shell is a lot easier now with OC 2.0. I had the unfortunate happenstance of running a faction on the old OC system right before it was upgraded.

But it gives me a bit of a leg up already having leadership experience, not much because of the steadfast/toleration detriments stalemating my progress well into 2025 because I had to build repoire with the community (coughs in low Xanax use) just to be able to finally end up where I currently am.

Yes your overall gameplay takes a hit if you're not sufficient enough to sustain Xanax use 2+ a day without wars. And paired with no toleration/steadfast (because noobs are going to press for excursion perks to make money outside of war over training benefits because they're not making enough in wars to supplement regular Xanax use either) there's a lot to consider taking on this endeavor but I wish you well in whatever direction you decide to go!

Thank you for sharing! I enjoy reading all of the comments and the experience every player has had because what I'm finding out is that every single one of them are different. I agree that it's a good idea to think about the faction in different perspectives. From a faction leader's perspective, I'm sure they're focused on growing the faction's components like Perks, players, respect, money, aka never ending list lol.

From a players perspective they're probably most likely thinking about how the faction can benefit them moving noe and moving forward. I know when I was a younger player I remember trying to find a faction that helped my traveling side of things since I didn't make much. But I also sold some losses on the side that honestly has helped give me a ton of capital that kind of snowballed.

Ideally whichever option I decide to go with. The main focus i want to have is trying to make Torn as enjoyable as it can be for the members that join and how we can all help each other out. Basically I'd want it to be a big group chat of players who like to grind😂

Yes, and for that to work they probably would be wanting a cut of the sale if they're following you around to help flip them.

Yeah one of the big challenges of leading a small faction early on is that the members you recruit usually have a different playstyle and goals to your own. Most leaders are relatively competitive players who are very active and have ambitions to grow. If you run a 5k or even 500k R faction, you can only rarely recruit members like that. More often it's casual players who are just trying the game out and want to mess around socially. What you want for your gameplay and what they want are often at odds, and if you're committed to making it a good experience for them, you'll often have to sacrifice your own preferences.

The toleration thing is one example. If most of your recruits aren't taking more than 1 xanax a day and likely don't plan to keep playing for more than a year or two, toleration doesn't help them as much as travel items do. But you screw yourself and your most active competitive members over by not having it. A bigger challenge comes later when your active members want booster cooldown perks for happy jumps and cans. But your less active members want crime perks instead so they wake up or travel with full nerve bars less often. You can usually make a case for supporting the more active and competitive members, unless that's only you and your colead, in which case the faction starts to look like a bit of a vanity project.

Actually  was gonna come in here and be a little negative, but reading Qfiffles posts here reminded me that as long as you have a LOT of spare time in your life, its kinda rewarding and fun building something up from nothing, specially if ya take it to the level she has her team.

My advice to anyone that wants to try it.. just dont let it become a job. Thats when the fun goes away, so create a balance in your life, surround yourself with solid folks, so you can delegate as much as possible, and never forget, you're here to have fun

I agree! It's crazy how many different types of ways there are to play the game. I imagine it's impossible to fulfill every players wishes when running a faction. This comment also made me think more of the niche I'd like to help fill when running my future faction. I know I'd be able to grow a faction if that's what I chose since I like helping people out in general.

I also very much agree with finding other players in your faction to help run the faction to make things a lot easier

Tornacious [2516540]

MeanMike would have been quite the fitting name then😂 I agree it's fun building something up and watching it grow along the way. Makes for an amazing experience and story to tell future members.

As for your advice, I feel that's really important as well. Torn is all about having as much fun as possible without getting banned along the way lol. #RIP Fed Jail folks

I have bought a faction only 50 days ago.

It was at 63k now have it at 73k.

It's hard work but definitely worth it.

I have come across some pretty cool people.

If you buy a faction you have got to be careful about what there stats were.

My faction is in gold 2 but I can not rank war because of the last group we're very high stats say a total of 10billion and now we are a total of 2 billion so it's a big drop in stats so I can't rank war.

My fault on not doing the research so if you buy a faction with a lot of respect just bare that in mind.

Started from scratch with a group of online friends. Everything we have we built up ourselves.

Wouldn't want to do it any other way.

Thanks for the heads up! I suppose you could always rank war and drop down a few tiers? After thinking about it for awhile, I think ive came to the conclusion that I won't try to run a faction until ive done everything else in the game. Have all stock Perks, have great battle stats, etc. That way I have the strength and money to support the faction
