Hello Torn players,

I am conducting a research project to collect and analyze data about arrests in Torn. Arrests in the game currently are not fully understood, we lack a clear understanding of the patterns, values, and underlying factors that influence arrest outcomes.

The goal of this project is to build a machine learning model that can help identify trends and insights related to arrests: how arrest value correlates with crime behavior, what patterns lead to high-value arrests, and how arrests impact player activity over time.

To support this research, I am requesting participants to share their arrest logs — either as the player who was arrested or as the player who made the arrest.

What I am looking for:

  • Arrest logs from detectives or criminal that were arrested.

  • Logs sent directly from the system and not copied over.
  • Logs should have exact time when arrest happened!
  • Screenshots of people with their current arrest value, or N/A. https://www.torn.com/page.php?sid=crimesRecord

Your contributions will be used to train and validate a machine learning model and to better understand the role and value of arrests. All submissions will remain anonymous (if you send it to me instead of posting in forum) and will be used only for research purposes.

Reward:
Assuming this will lead to model that can be good at predicting arrest value, all participants will receive limited access to the model, based on their contribution amount.

Thank you for your participation and support in this research.

How will having raw arrest logs help? You won't know when the player was last arrested or jailed (arrest warrants reset when you get jailed for any reason).

Edit: not to mention you won't know how much they earned and what crimes they did in the meantime.

The logs themselves seem fairly useless. Myself and Omanpx done some digging on this a while ago and we could come up with some approximations from public data and arrests based on crime types.

You would need full crime logs, not just the arrest ones to be worth the time.

not sure what you are going to get just from the arrest logs. you'd need more crime data which i doubt it available in the api

Fair point, but whole idea is to be able to determinate as accurate as possible from public available data. Simple fact I was able to that to around 80% accuracy (does user have an arrest warrant) already without external data, tells me it is possible.

Biggest problem I found is accurate estimation of the value of the arrest, where attempt will try to do. There is too much variation and public data is not detailed enough, however given enough data I hope it will be possible to have +-10% estimation of the arrest value.

Wazis [3807677]

Well this is why I will try to employ machine learning instead of exact calculations, to be able to spot patterns that are not so obvious for us at a glance. There is plenty of public user data that could be used for this no just crime data. This is before you even apply feature engineering.

In any case this can fail just as well, but I won't know unless I try, and to have good attempt I need data :)

Omanpx [1906686]

Machine learning is not a blanket solution for problems like this. With bad data, no amount of machine learning will help you.

Wazis [3807677]

Not arguing that it will, but if pattern is too complex to spot or compute, ML can for sure do better job at it.

But you are right there is a possibility, that public user data does not have enough signal for arrest value prediction, that can only be found during testing.

Adrenalinas [1974447]

I think the task would’ve been more useful if we could actually see more information about the targets — for example, how many crimes they completed between their last jail and their arrest, what types of crimes they did, and what rewards they received from them. Maybe even include OCs as well.
