No, you both get the full happiness boost from the property.
To confuse the shit out of everyone IRL when you casually mention your wife in convo with someone else that plays around people that don't.

My IRL wife might not like this
Is there a point where all marriage merits have been earned? Returning player, but my torn partner is long lost it seems. Would like an active partner to split costs, but not worth losing a streak for merits
edit: I think the answer is 2k days, but please let me know if I am wrong
Don't worry, just tell your IRL wife that no girls play Torn, so your game wife is just some dude anyway.

The 21st medal is for 2,000 days, indeed. The final honor bar for 1,500 days. After that you can just be a playboy and have short term marriages for money ;-)
That said, an inactive partner (even in FED) still counts towards days married. Please correct me if this is no longer the case.
It's probably one of the few ways to split upkeep values on the more expensive properties. It also awards merits over time, which could be potentially worth it.
There are 21 tasty merits to be had for staying married. The other potential perks of splitting costs/having a friend to chat are also nice.
If you are concerned about real life jealous spouses I suggest marrying the same sex in Torn as a bro-marriage/gal-marriage.
