Did you go to the guides forum, did you do George’s missions, do you think begging will help?

I've already completed the initial missions, and I didn't read the guide because of the language barrier and time constraints.

I know that, I've played other text-based RPGs, but this one is very complete, with many options. My concern is the fear of wasting time on things that won't add value to the game.

The only way to waste your time is if you feel like you’re wasting your time. To some, forums are a waste of time. To some, forums are the best part of the game. It’s up to you to decide that.

The beauty of Torn is that you get to play it how you like.  You set your own goals and milestones.

There are as many legitimate ways to play Torn as there are interests.  In this way it mimics real life.  Have you ever heard the parable of John Lennon? His teacher assigns a writing prompt to him, “what do you want to do with your life?” And his answer is, “Be Happy.” She tells him he didn’t understand the assignment. He told her she didn’t understand life. Do what makes you happy.

You will have people mock your choices but who cares? If you’re happy and they’re so f**king miserable that they would rather dissect your choices than look at what they’ve become, then that is a win you can enjoy no matter how far you are from your own goal! Especially if they are such a weenie they aren’t even brave enough to say their shitty judgement out loud.  Yes, you will have people send anonymous money or messages with comments about where you aren’t.  Keep in mind it’s because if they weren’t anonymous then they know you would just compare stats and see how they lack compared to you. How do I know this? Because successful players who feel good about themselves don’t bother with people they know they’ve surpassed. Only people who lack, feel the need to be shitty like that.

so again look around, see what sparks your interest.  Do you want to race? Do you want to trade? Do you want to mug?  Do you want to run a business?  Or a faction? Or do you want to create art and sell it in the graphics forum? Do you want to code? Do you want to analyze data or collect some item?  Do you want to be a forum whore (as a part time forum whore I can say that it can be totally fun! Fun, but too time consuming and those who  do it full time will mock your attempt at doing it half assedly.  Don’t let that stop you if it makes you happy!

As many shitty people as you might encounter, and trust me, since you started your journey asking for handouts, you will encounter a TON! (This forum is incredibly toxic to what they consider beggars.)

But I digress! As many shitty people as you might encounter, you will will also find a ton of players who are awesome! Players who will overlook the missteps of a newb and maybe even show you the ropes. But beware!  Some of those people are just kinky and the ropes they try to show you are NSFW!  Stares hard at MHR!

Honestly, if language is a barrier look for people from your area, put the flag of your nation (or a nation you know speaks your language if you don’t want people knowing where you’re from) as your honor bar. People might reach out because of it or you can write up a personal ad looking for people who speak your native language. Maybe they reach out and help you figure out the game. But honestly try to find time to go through the guides; at least Baldr’s

even if you have to plug it into an interpreting program. Good luck!
