I know im super late to the party but, I recently downloaded fallout 2 on my laptop decided to try one of early games out ( I started with 3 like most people) and f**k this game is hard. Like not just difficulty but generally it's alot. Its like a combination of rts and Diablo game play but super convoluted control system it took me 3 reboots of the game to figure out to press f1 to pull up controls and now im at an impassable door but I killed everything in the area. If anyone has any legit tips on the learning curve that would be great. I love the franchise( mostly 76 doesnt exist to me) put in over 1000 hour in nv and 3 respectively. But 2 has me stumped just figuring out how to play it.

From memory look at the skills you have and pick the one that would best help unlock the door. It's frustrating when you first play but once you get the hang of it super amazing game!

Ok just had a quick look in game as I couldn't remember - go to Skilldex and pick the relevant skill to pick the door.

No Mutants Allowed

Is a brilliant site and has mods that I highly recommend - improves gameplay a lot! Let us know how you get on!

Before you get much further into the game - I'd install this - Fallout 2 Restoration Project (Unofficial Expansion) Updated

It will re-write your save game but it improves the playability of the game and fixes bugs and adds a lot more depth to the game.

Yeah, the isometric era fallouts don't really hold your hand.. started with new vegas back in 2010 and i decided to try 2 as well. I remember trying to play maybe 10/12-ish years ago and I didn't realize the upper left corner part of the character screen was where you typed in your character's name. I think I only got past slightly past the tutorial area as well until i decided to just continue nv. I'll probably revisit when I feel like it especially since I've tried other crpgs since then

I started with Fallout - came preinstalled on one of my first PC's. Definitely a learning curve playing it - took me ages to realise the shaded floor tile / map was access to another area - wondered why I couldn't get far! But you get such a diverse way to play. Go round and shoot entire towns up, sleep with men or women - kill them too lol . I love Fallout 76 but hate that you are forced to be nice and help people when I just want to go on a rampage :)

I loved the first fallout. I have not yet had the opportunity to play the second, but the first was one if my favorite games for a while. The thing is, it has nothing in common with the newer ones other than the setting. They were straight tactics games, whereas the newer ones are more open world rpg with a bit of shooter mixed in.

If you want a tip, I cam give you one. But its basically cheating, so if you want the challenge don't do it. But as I recall, in the first fallout, you can quicksave at any point. Then you can go one turn at a time and reset until the RNG turns out in your favor.

Not sure if it still works in the second, but whether it does or not it takes a lot of the enjoyment out if the game, at least for me. Good luck!

Yes! Save, save and save more. The games (1 & 2) are incredibly unforgiving if you make one mistake - e.g. you fast travel and get a tough random encounter. Also, I would always create a new save in a new town and that way if I wanted to go back and follow a different path / good / evil - I could without starting all over again.
