Opinion on staff in forums

Incredibly biased.

If staff like you, you get treated in white gloves.

If you criticize staff or they dislike you, you can get banned for jokes and they have gone out of their way to make shit up or create new rules and retroactively use them to justify permanent bans (Ovoxo, Nova, HerrSchmidt, Champion, TheStud, LustDragon, TheFerrett just a few that immediately come to mind)

If you value your account, beware staff and don't expect fair treatment.

And aside from traditional staff, the Newspaper editor Sugarvalves regularly lies, twists people's words and gaslights, so take the articles with a handful of salt.

There was a difference though. The Happy Christmas and shit threads get to stay because they do just that, wishing people a happy holiday and such. There is like several pages worth of Happy Christmas on the GD forum around December 25th.

The Ramadan thread wanted a discussion on how people act during Ramadan, what prayers to do and whatnot. If he had just wished everyone a happy? Ramadan I don't think staff would have moved it.

I agree with most of the points people raised, I would also like to raise the point that a lot of the forum moderation is very reactive rather than proactive. They only work based on reports from players which can be problematic especially since people here weaponise them for petty reasons. 

Why do I say that? I did it in the past and everyone including staff was okay with it because it was against a player staff didn't like. I guess that answers my question on why the same thing is allowed to happen to me. 

Ultimately they need more forum mods, and a clearer rules on what's allowed on GD but I guess more clear rules seem to be a sticking point for them eh?

First, which staff? Forum moderators? bogie/PJ the judge jury and executioner of everyone's fun? Sugarvalves posting 274 racing articles in the paper because there isn't anything more interesting to talk about? CloudJumper fixing bugs?

I think in many instances. torn staff are biased, oppressive, unprofessional, and selective in enforcement of the rules. In being such, they refuse to allow for real discussion with those affected the most, opting instead to close the conversation from further discussion. Depending on how much you spend on Torn of course.

However, they are humans and humans mess up. Occasionally, on a harvest moon every 7th year, they admit to these mistakes and try to do better and I have to give them credit for this when it very very rarely occurs. Other times, they blindly reject facts, show favoritism, and cause more problems than they fix. Again, not perfect.

That said, how many times have we seen complete unhinged off kilter topics in GD that need to be addressed? Many. Other times, you get your happy thanksgiving thread graved because it reminded some staff member of an ex gf who dumped them 24 years ago. So, as all things staff in Torn, it depends on the mood of the individual or their particularly bias and lack of impartiality. If it's the duo that we all know, how many shithead multis (multiple accounts owned by the same person), automation scripters, or harassment fiends have been canned? Plenty. So sometimes, occasionally, from time to time, they get it really wrong and I can see how that would be their default setting because actual investigation is hard work and reading counter evidence is even harder. Who holds them accountable for their mistakes? Each other. So thanks god we can all rest assured that Torn will always be wonderfully policed.

Just remember, if you donate 100k sheckles, you earn some measure of immunity to rule breaking. Maybe. Depending on the mood at the moment.
