2nd Edit.. someone shat on my revised suggestion.. and they are right!

Feel free to grave this and I'll think harder next time lol

** I've had a slight change of opinion following some users feedback since  my original post would have meant removing valid strategies for war. My altered suggestion now simply offers a consequence for doing so.

my original post is at the bottom in italic for context:

** Edit: after Albertos suggestion:

I would happily replace my initial suggestions with some form of penalty for staying in hospital for too long following a merc hit or self hosping.. Every consecutive hour you are in hospital bleeds 10 points to the enemy faction, or loses your faction 10 points. At least then there are potential consequences for hiding for too long!

If it's a -10 points, then this could obviously impact the potential rewards and how a faction operates the strategy.

For example: you don't like the start time the game has chosen for you, you pay a merc to hosp your whole 50 member faction. If you choose to stay in hospital and start your war 3 hours later you would have granted a 1,500 lead to your opponent (50 members x 10 points x 3 hours). Obviously it would work on an individual level throughout the war whenever you decide to turtle too.. a simple med out and med in, resets the timer, so an active player could avoid the consequence, but inactive players would pay the point penalty.

Keen to hear feedback and thoughts on this. positive or negative :)

Title: War Start - Okay Status, Revives on and 5 minute Merc

I'm sure we've all been there. A War is planned, we manage to convince our partners to let us join the start of the war, and some may even cancel plans to yes, play Torn, however sad that seems! We turn up for the start and find that the entire enemy team is in hospital for 4-5 hours!

We've had this several times and we've done it too, with our last war being a prime example (They would have likely beaten us anyway as they were way more active, but this hammered it home).. My guys revived who they could and ran the slowest chain ever, most got bored and logged off. The other faction jumped out 4 hours later and pummeled us. Yes we know we could have done the same, used better strategy etc. but we are mostly casual players who turned up for a bit of fun at the start of the war, win or lose, it didn't matter (obviously winning is preferred).

So I'd like to put forward a suggestion to improve the games activity and hopefully make them much more fun at the start.

  • At the Start of War, all players status is set to "okay" - Anyone in hospital or jail is instantly out
  • All Revive Status is set to "Everyone" - this opens up more opportunity for Healers to earn.
  • 5 minute Merc protection - meaning attacks from outside of the war are locked out.
  • Fedded players can be hit, but can't hit back

I believe this would ensure way more activity at war start time... Yes, players can still self hosp, or fly, but to do that, they have to be active.

I believe this will also help encourage more real wars over termed wars, as one of the regular pieces of leverage we hear is the threat of a drawn out turtled war... well, this reduces the chance to do that.

It's a good job addressing the symptoms of timing being (somewhat) random, and not having everyone's timezones aligned. I feel like someone smarter than me could come up with a solution that additionally addresses the cause of these issues before they happen, by making the start time somehow more agreeable for everyone involved.

No idea how to do that though xD

this is clearly a bad idea. if u want everyone to be okay at war start why want the revive to turn on. it basically make it. "who spend more on rev get more win"

and also annoying to make people turn it back off again

I think there is merit to this suggestion.  It is just, that this is kinda counter to what we are all used to.

1st, blind matching.  The two armies have no idea who is fighting whom.

2nd.  Random start.   Its an RNG, hopefully over time the benefits and screwing over of times will balance.

3rd.   This idea as posted, altered.   Hitting fedded or fallen is stupid.  No merc protection.

Clean slate...shotgun start.  Also adds to the RNG.

Faction can decide what tactics they want to line up for start.

You’re only screwing over your own members. Pretty shitty thing to do to them just because you can’t get what you want. It would be the good leader thing to do, to get it over with as quick as possible so your lower stat members can get back to training as quick as possible.

Bruneau [2904573]

When you term a war you don't necessarily have to have it be terms for a Win or Loss.

You can come up with whatever rules you want and see if the other faction agrees to them.

Offer the terms you stated there to every faction you run across and see how that goes.

Turtling might be boring but it's a valid tactic.

SirTrashy [3696648]

Oh I’m not bitching about this war lol drag it out as long as you want! Just means we get to keep you in the hospital longer. Maybe we can even keep you from match making next week if you play stupidly enough. We weren’t planning on warring next week so we aren’t worried about it. I’m just stating that you’re a shitty leader to your faction and are only thinking about yourself. You’re mad because we won’t let you farm caches off this war so you’re throwing a tantrum. Hopefully we will be able to steal a few of your members and show them how a real faction is run.

Thesaurus_Rex [3812395]

I just feel like going down during a war by your own hand, or by the hand of a faction member, should incur a respect penalty.  a negative on own team's score during war.

But as for the suggestions posted here, only the first one:  everyone up at war start, seems like a good idea. big 👍 on this one.

SirTrashy [3696648]

Strength isn’t decided by a single person, our strongest member could do the same to yours. All I’m saying is that you guys dragging this out because we won’t set terms, is only going to hurt yourselves in the long run. Yes it’s an annoyance to us, but not much more than that. The better thing to do for your faction as a whole, is to get it over with and move on so that you can get to the rank you guys are more comfortable in.

Palisade [2536667]

Aaaaanyway - all this to say that yes, I agree with most of the suggestion in the OP. I'd probably also add some element of not mixing territory wars with ranked wars. Seems silly to me, even disregarding my current matchup.

"More real wars over termed wars." is the goal that I support with this suggestion.
