I feel like O- blood bags should be the most valuable on the market, but I’d love to hear why that isn’t the case.
Here’s my reasoning:
O- blood bags
- Compatible with recipients of any blood group.
However, according to the current market:
B- blood bags – about $26,500 at the time of this post
- Compatible with B-, B+, AB-, and AB+
AB- blood bags – about $24,800 at the time of this post
- Compatible with AB- and AB+ only
I understand that B- and AB- are much rarer, meaning there are fewer players who can produce those blood types. That scarcity likely increases their price.
However, I would still expect O- blood bags to be extremely valuable because of their universal compatibility. Any player can use them regardless of blood type, which makes them incredibly flexible.
For example, if a player with AB- blood doesn’t have access to an AB- blood bag, they could still use an O- blood bag as a fallback or last-resort option.
Because of that universal usability, I would assume O- blood bags would carry a higher value, or at least be closer in price to the rare types.
I’m curious what the economic reasoning is behind the current pricing, can anybody help me?
