While sitting in Jail for slightly longer than usual, I was thinking about what would make being in jail more interesting. Sure, we have the Gym. But that's ... fine? I guess? Other than that, you're waiting to be busted or bailed if you can't afford to escape.

Some initial thoughts:

  • Join a Gang
  • Bribe a guard
  • Mission provider only available in jail
  • Duke missions that involve smuggling contraband into the jail (not just get yourself in there then take something to end up in hospital. That's only fun once
  • Increasing people's desire to remain IN jail would also increase their annoyance in being busted/bailed out of jail, which IMO would create an interesting dynamic to it

Would be interested in hearing other thoughts, and apologies if this has been posted. I poked around the first 5 pages and could see anything, but my eyes are garbage so ...

The trouble with all of these is that most people don't actually spend that long in jail when they get arrested. Yes, the major OC's can land you in there for longer and there's a good chance you'll spend at least a little bit in there, but for many arrests, players are only in jail for a few seconds not hours before they're busted or bailed. There wouldn't be much opportunity to actually participate in these things unless you were attempting to assassinate a political figure.

Thanks Elizabeth. Agreed that people very rarely spend long in jail, I'll elaborate on

  • "Increasing people's desire to remain IN jail would also increase their annoyance in being busted/bailed out of jail, which IMO would create an interesting dynamic to it"

I think this is where the fun is. Depending on how much the jail environment was expanded we could see changes to gameplay. Busting factions and jail factions, negotiations between factions, and mugging the person who busted you out as a way to say "thanks, I hate it".

It may also inspire the Devs to come up with creative ways for people to spend longer in jail.
