I'll give you an answer, although you don't really deserve one.
Back in the early days of the internet it was only really cool for guys to play games, so all the online gamers were men. The only female characters you would see running around were men playing female characters, 99% of the time as big breasted barbarians or half naked elves.
They were called cross-dressers.
Then later the girls/women started too see the attraction of online gaming. They made the mistake of playing as females, which led them to be drooled over and approached in all kinds of sleezy ways by the men, who were mostly horny teenagers or men living in their moms basement.
This led to more women/girls playing as male characters. I will bet that there are more men pretending to play female characters than actually females playing female characters in Torn. There are plenty of females playing male characters though.
Why does this matter?
