Is It About Time 'Time Traveler' & 'Allure' Were Made Available From The Points Building?

I've been a player now for over 2000 days.  In this time I have never experienced, or survived, a Torn City Rollback. How common were these? Common enough to make it an "uncommon" honour bar, which is pretty common. However, I don't know or understand Torn's current system enough to know if there ever will be one again as downtime is at an all time low:

So, what would incur a Torn City Rollback at this stage? 

My suggestion is quite straightforward, it's a cool looking honour bar and a merit that no one younger than 1971 day has, at least. In my opinion, no merit should be unobtainable and the Old School are now being celebrated via Profile Badges, rather than honour bars. 

Make this Honour Bar available from the Points Building, for a fee of something daft like 2,500 points. 

Edit: Been brought to my attention that "Allure" for participation in Mr & Ms Torn competition is now also unavailable but not in the Points Building. Let's add that too for players to purchase for points. 

An event requiring a rollback would either include a rogue A.I. or a rogue hamster. But you never know. Let's keep dreaming...

It occurred once. It was awarded to approximately 8,323 people.

To allow players to purchase it from the Points Building is to dishonor those who lived it. Yes, it's only a game, but it was real time that was lost.

So that's exactly my point, those players can be honoured with a Badge, as the first 100 players to achieve level 100 have. I understand that "If you weren't there you shouldn't have it." mentality but I've got to disagree that not all players can have certain honour bars because you didn't find out about the game fast enough, especially when there are alternative options now to display that part of history on your profile.

it only happened once, and it was data becoming corrupt and we had to go weeks back to what was last saved in torn, it was a really unique thing that i don't think will ever happen again. 

No, no. That is so incredibly unfair to the people who actually got them legitimately. Those merits are badges of honour for those who have played the game a long time and for those who participated in and won a competition. It would be such a huge middle finger to everyone who got them if you could just buy them.

Okay, so exactly what they did with Survivor, and Proven Capacity, and Globally Effective, and Brainz? 

So I could never achieve the goal of collecting all the honour bars, simply because I'm not an older player? Seems inequitable.

Edit: Also, just to be clear on one point you made, "those who participated in and won a competition". All you had to do to achieve Time Traveler was exist during that period of time. All you had to do to achieve Allure was post an image of yourself, it didn't matter if it got voted a 1 or a 10. They're hardly on the same scale that winning Elims is, for example. 

Yes. It sucks, and completionists will be left feeling incomplete, but again, it is such a huge middle finger to the people that got the legitimately if players could just buy them. There will be more merits in the future, and I have no doubt that there will be more "retired" merits in the future. That's just how things go.

As a player who got the time traveller merit legit. I do not care if the merit became available via the points market.*

1: The way the game is designed means it's unlikely to ever happen again.

2: You still have the option to get it legit if you care that much. Just don't buy it. Congratulations, you saved some points!

3: When you buy an honor from the points market that was previously available in the game, the text literally says "purchased via the points market". Whereas a legitimate earn has the original earnt conditions. 

Case in point, my Torn of the Dead honors. I was able to earn all but one legitimately. They all have their original description. E.g.

Finish the Torn of the Dead competition as a civilian. 

Whereas the Brainz honor reads... Purchased from Token Shop or Points Building... and honestly I wish this option was available for the gambling merits due to the mental effect they have on me when I play them...

4: anyone call tell who got it legit because profile age is the universal indicator.

Given "how" unique and unprecidented the original rollback was that gave the honor and the merit... it would be a tad odd if everybody could suddenly run around with it. Since it wasn't just a case of "Oh no, my Torn income!" Some people lost their entire account during the process, so certainly make the merit purchasable, but for the honor, make it a different colour or in some way thay stand out a bit more from a legitimate earn.

I got and use the merit. It was recompense for losing a weeks progress back in 2013 due to a database crash and backup methods that either weren't tested or failed automagically.

Personally, I dont care if it's avail via points for a few reasons:

• It took no effort on our part to get. We logged in and there it was.
• Ched fixed the issue and redesigned the games backup procedures so it's extraordinarily unlikely to ever happen again. We have a billion times more chance of getting the RNG merit which is already bullshit.
• They already gave away globally effective and master of one via the points building so there's a precedence. Why gatekeep this one but give away the ones that took actual work to get?
• It's no different than those bullshit unobtainable steam achieves preventing you from getting the ribbon (requires MP but dead/offline and/or limited time only).

If there needs to be a commemoration, I wouldn't mind a badge: "Survived Torn's database crash in 2013" which is the new system thats literally designed for these kinds of things. That to me is far cooler than having a merit bar.

So yea, make the tardis available again.

Im one of those older players. I would much rather them having gate-kept Master of One and Globally Effective. Especially as when they were available, I was very new to the game and there were much less money making opportunities back then, so it actually took some effort for me to get.

It's really no different giving this one away too. I didn't 'earn' anything, it was given to me as repayment for losing a weeks progress.

Give us a badge instead if it needs to be marked. Those are way cooler and actually designed for things like this.

As mentioned above this Honor Bar took zero effort on anyone's part and was a total freebie. Given to those of us who were lucky, or unlucky enough to have been playing since crashes happened on a regular basis.

(Like, remember every new day update we'd have to wait through?)

For me personally I wouldn't care if players were able to purchase this particular honor bar. Spend your points how you like. Hell! I'll never get those honor bars that are no longer available, simply because I didn't participate at the time.

Also, If it resulted in me getting a badge just for being an old timer? Even better! I think this idea is fine and takes nothing away from anyone in Torn who has just been here forever.

Honestly, I would not be bothered by the fact players would be able to buy a Time Traveller bar.

I am amongst those who got it back then but I agree with Miss-B-Havin, it was no effort whatsoever from our side.

If I remember correctly we even all got compensated for any lost time/E/N/etc.

So, go ahead, meanwhile I'll be zoomin' between 235 AD and Stardate 2696.7.

As someone with an account older than the last instance of the merit being awarded, I feel hard done by to not have it
We wont talk about the fact I was years inactive at that point and was affected by the corruption and rollback precisely zero

Honestly the gatekeeping and constant "it's a middle finger, it's a slap in the face" attitude is a bit weird when the existing alternative has already been presented regarding the badges as well as a solid recommendation for an alternative that doesn't yet exist. Doubly so considering other retired honours have gone this way with little fuss. Let the people have merit equality! 

But anyway, that's my two cents. And a tidbit of fun info in case anyone was wondering, old inactives who returned afterwards did not get this merit. #themoreyouknow
