Tl;dr upfront: how would you describe your feelings/opinions on quantum physics relative to your knowledge and/or understanding of it.
I've been a history nerd since middle school and at damn near 40, I needed a break and had to find something new to study. I quickly decided that I wanted to learn more about physics. My brain isn't built for physics, although I've always found it extremely interesting. I started studying things like basic astrophysics and basic relativity as best I could. Neat stuff, although I can't say I grasped much of it, if any at all.
I was soon led to quantum physics. The only thing I knew about quantum physics was some bastardized version of Schrödinger's cat a douche friend tried to explain to make himself appear smart. You know what I'm talking about, we all know those people.
I am privileged to live in an age and society where I can read about some wacky phenomenon and can easily either get an explanation as to the cause, or at the very least, some educated guess based on rules and reasonable assumptions. I like that we generally can explain why crazy shit happens.
Guess what motherf**kers!? Quantum physics, that's what! Time and distance are irrelevant, particles essentially do whatever they want and nothing makes sense.
I feel betrayed by science. There is an entire facet of our existence that we can observe but struggle mightily to explain. I've literally had an ongoing existential crisis since I started learning about quantum physics. I'm not joking, the things science has observed that violate our basic understanding of the world around us is astonishing.
Fringe science is a guilty pleasure of mine. There's always tons of rhetorical questions about what is and isn't possible. I no longer have a clue what is and isn't possible.
How would you classify your understanding of quantum physics? What is the basis of your knowledge? Do you have any format education or other relevant credentials?
What do you think of quantum physics? A conspiracy? A misunderstanding? Utter poppycock? Could we see significant discoveries in our lifetime? Will we ever actually understand quantum physics? Do you have any personal theories? What aspects are you most curious about or find most interesting? What are some of the craziest things you've learned?
Personally I have a terrible grip on quantum physics, but know enough to confidently say it's pure witchcraft.
