How many account signed up at once in the HTR case?, not sure i have seen numbers. If its several then meh its a shiit ban but if its 10's then yeah maybe you need to do a little of your own do diligence.

Honestly think this should fall to the multi-hunter tools and staff.
Let's say I made a gaming site that lists a bunch of online games, gives reviews, etc. Drove a bjnch of traffic there and had thr #1 game as Torn, linked to my referral. Or did a paid social media ad, linking to my referral link - using Torn's provided add banners.
Suppose I did that and got a pile of sign-ups from rando's as a result, and some of those people multi'd. Then I get banned for... what... being a cost-free paid advertising service for Torn?!
Any new player, referred or not, comes with the risk of not reading or following the rules.
I’m not sure where you got that this was some sort of “policy” I’ve just created out of thin air. I was giving you clarifying information about how referrals work in relation to the rules, and why Pop’s issue wouldn’t be him in jeopardy because of an illegal referral. There’s been a lot of people doomsdaying about “if someone I don’t know randomly uses my referral will I lose my account?!” so my post aimed to give an answer to that. There’s nothing hostile about it, in fact the intent was to be helpful. But what I’m reading here is that people who are mad are gonna be mad, and no explanation will be satisfactory.
The game rules are an extension of the site’s terms of service and acceptable use policy. There is not a page with a detailed, bulleted answer for every whataboutism someone can imagine.
Filing a player report if you suspect something isn’t right isn’t a written policy either. It’s a system function, like the block feature, that gives players a usable tool.

I think the biggest problem is people seeming to insist that everything is contained in the rules
If you set the rules out to cover absolutely everything with granular detail they would be about 400 pages long and noone would read them
The rules also have to have a certain amount of latitude for staff to deal with dynamic and new situations
But not so much latitude they become nonsensical or contradictory
It's finding the balance between the position that rules are clear enough for players to understand and agile enough for staff to adapt them cover new and developing situations
Expecting staff to run off and get a new rule agreed and published everytime some smartarse finds a way to game the system is ludicrous
As is expecting staff to explain every decision they make in the forums
We are talking about a very old account who has been through every iteration of Torn. If there was a bunch of referrals they should have known something was going on.
Again if it was a few then its a bad look ban, if it was more than a few then of course you should know better. The gain was his in the end so when something strange happens you need to be accountable.
I'm speaking to the rule itself. And why would it apply more to some players than others? That's a bad rule.
It applies to everyone and more so to older active players that should know better. You are making up scenarios that are not at all the same to the things going on.
I asked if the ref';s were a lot, if not then bad ban if yes then good ban because if you play the game then have some understanding of the rules. I didn't agree with the PJ post for the one reason that they talked about buying certain merits or things in the game. It is pretty fing clear that if people want to continue to play this game then they better get better at reading and that includes between the lines because this is a game.

If HTR had 3 people sign up fine, if it was a heap and they didn't bother to do anything about it then its on them simple...

You can and that's fine, but the rules state you need to know and more so if you stand to benefit from anything.
Because the rules page doesn't include what you just said, but what you just said is law.
And this is not, nor will it be the last time, people have questions about referrals.
Hell, having just checked, the automated scripting section says nothing about websockets.
We're genuinely just asking for the bare minimum here.
A lot of us are professionals in our own lines of work, we're not talking out of our asses here.

Hey, we saw that one of your recent referrals you paid for ended up being a multi. We understand you couldn't have planned for this but any rewards from them will be stripped, just giving you a heads up.
We also plan to stop allowing players to buy referrals, as it is not the way we intended for the system to function. Moving forward, please cease from buying referrals while we work on an announcement to notify players of these changes.

This is literally all that needed to happen. And then you make an announcement, and nobody would even be talking about this. Thinking this is the result of anything other than staffs choices is nonsensical.

Player X comes to htr and says i can get refs for you. htr says ok sounds good, couple refs come in but then all of a sudden there is an influx of refs and something seems fishy. htr does nothing and goes about there business meanwhile getting any benefits from the glut of refs that came in.

Refer to the rules changing always. Dude this is a game with a lot of leeway most other games have little to no avenue to talk about rules and rulings. htr has played this game for 2 decades and should f**king know better plain and simple.
Most players, even the forum warriors, know when something seems sus. It looks like a heap of multi accounts signed up and htr was too lazy to bother checking on it so he copped a ban. Its a game so...
Know better than to what? Buy a merit? It's not even a crazy thing to pay for someone to get referrals for you, as they are giving up a referral they could have had themselves along with all of it's rewards.
How many more goal posts would you like to shift to get away from the core issue here?
