Better matches are fine. But until ched gets over his hard-on for infinite growth and continuity, we'll never have functional ranked warring.
Here is the absolutely terrible, hated by most solution to your RW problem, that I've sad multiple times before:
July 1 every year, set everyone's rank back to Bronze.
We're not going to term wars we can win if we're getting shit rewards. If we have the chance to bank big money in June before the reset in July, we're going to try to do that.
But just floating in a rank for years on end, terming, getting rewards, occasionally fighting, that's going to keep going as long as you let it.
Okay name more than 6 factions(preferably 10) where fight between you and them wont be a total one way with no chance of other side to win.
You're free to speak up, as this is a public forum, but unfortunately you'll be in the same boat as me, which is not being asked for your opinion, not heard, and no one gives a shit about what you have to say.
I don't think any of this changes ranked warring. The problem is the motivation, not how factions are matched.
For the vast majority of factions RW exist to make a personal income, there are a lot who claim otherwise that just vanish from the fight as soon as they get pushback, and a war is the antithesis of that. The more effort factions put in, the more they have to spend. Unfortunately to the point of not recouping money spent if the fight is good enough. While terming factions just throw a few attacks in and wait for their pay-day.
They're going to be a gamified source of income until they actually reward factions for warring.
Utter waste of time...
Can’t wait to see this
Monarch Retardation mentioned big win
nothing gonna stop these lames from terming but looking forward to it nonetheless
Oh no, my Termed War income 😂😂😂😂😂
That's the real rub here, isn't it?
The further up the rankings you go, the harder and harder it is to do that. In Mutation, we have like 5 good solid matches? Absolutely not enough for a year of solid warring, maybe like 2 months tops.
But ched designed this system imagining that there were far more close fights than there were in reality. It's baffling really. He has all the data he could want. But he just tried to will into being a lot of competitive wars, when there were nowhere near that many. Probably an order of magnitude less than he had imagined.
Pair that with real RWs costing more than the money you get out of them, and here we are. I remain baffled by how obtuse ched seems to be about all of this. It's like he doesn't understand what a hard RW costs, despite being able to mine ALL OF THE DATA. Or, you know, just ask us.
So we're going to go broke doing real wars all the time, but there's only like 10% of the number he intended anyway. How do you get a warring system that wrong?
I think your perspective is warped here. The reality is that the vast majority of factions do have many close potential matchups. You are the 1% of the 1%. Certainly for you the number of close matchups is low, but you aren't at all indicative of the wider playerbase. It is the same in any ranked system. If you want close matchups, then the top handful of ranks will have much harder times getting matchups. Just play CS2 on a high rank vs a low rank and look at the queue time difference, for example. Or look at rocket league where at the top ranks people meet the same opponents repeatedly at times.
So it's worse than I said.
Nice.
At least for us, with only like 10% of matches being real wars, we can term the rest. That gives us a nice warchest for the 10% where we really fight, and come out -$3b to -$5b after selling the caches.
We term all the time for 2 reasons. First, we can't afford not to. Second, because there aren't good wars to be had 90% of the time.
If more factions have close matchups, how do they ever make any money? Fighting a hard war is a negative financial gain. Yeah, you can term all sorts of things....no mercs, no flight delays, no revivers, no self-hosps, race to 10k score, etc., and have a "real war" that doesn't break the bank. But if you're doing that....why not just term the whole thing?
I know this is a bit askew of the topic, but maybe a faction diversity bonus for wars? Something to reward factions for having better proportions of the various stat ranges?
itd act as a mild-moderate penalty for factions that are stacked, reducing rewards for the same performance. It would incentivize leaders go recruit differently and penalize the concentration of strength weve seen over the years.
It probably wouldnt be as large of a concern for families like monarch where they have 50 shells, but aside from that the largest downside I see is that it would also, in this state, penalize very small factions i.e. factions starting from scratch without a solid group.
Personally I dislike the idea of effectively forcing players to move factions but for the purpose of optimizing RW for competitiveness, i think its a plausible idea.
edit: as a positive, a lot of middle ground factions in my experience do prioritize a balance of strengths to cover ground
another positive- it would penalize cache farms that have a few heavy hitters and a bunch of noobs
Can we a cost reduction in needles? I think even the big 3 would agree they are huge cost in wars. I know you guys like your cash sink, but let us have our fun by killing each other and not breaking the bank
You're conflating things here. There is not going to be magically more good factions for you to fight, and expecting a change from Ched to make that the case for Monarch/NS/CR families is crazy. All this change does is increase the frequency of how often you match against someone who could be a good fight, should you decided to fight rather than farm.
Nothing else really changes for factions who want to fight. You can mutually agree to term if you can more about income than bragging rights - and I expect that's exactly what most factions will [continue] to do. It's not going to decrease 'fun' because you aren't getting those wars anyway.
What it will do though is make it harder to run pure cache farms with a really lopsided member base and get hoisted into Platinum or Diamond because of friends. Those cache farms will likely get stat capped out of diamond (really depends on what 'performance cap' is set to), and match more often against factions who don't have to term against them. Honestly boo hoo to that crowd, you had a good run.
Hopefully the performance cap isn't set too low so that it nerfs really good warring factions in Bronze/Silver/Gold who know the game well enough to really dominate above their stats, and it just targets super obvious abuse.
Well, see, we make the same per hit if we term or not. And we don't have SE costs or steroid costs or merc costs or flight delay costs or BCT costs and I couldn't care less if my members train between wars, so we might not even have training costs.
But our termed pay per hit maxes out at around $1.4m per hit, which I split off into paying for non hit activities. And our non termed pay usually caps out at a Xanax per hit, maybe an escape per hit if we're unlucky.
So that would be how we don't need to term every war.
We termed to rank down the new shell we bought, and we'll term if we don't really feel like warring that weekend, but mostly we've been doing racing wars or no terms lately. Same pay as termed wars. Except of course if we're forced back into Silver 1 with this tbs rank nonsense. Then who knows, maybe we'll sell, and hopefully before the market on factions crashes. Otherwise maybe we'll start meeting for y'all up at the top instead of warring. Who knows.
Also why not make the "decay" variable. We war every week and almost always negotiated just for the money. But if we were to fight to the end - being on non-stop for 4-5 days is insane. So obviously I'm not going to do that every week. Why not put in the decay to randomly be 3% - 5% so then I know well hey if we dig in for 2 solid days we can hold this because we got a good decay %?
Regardless you aren't fixing anything here in reality. The thought that people WANT to be on all weekend for a ranked war is just really blind to the majority of the player base. Take away the caches entirely and literally no one would RW cause they don't want to. It's all just for the money baby
I do get what you mean with this bit, maybe I misunderstood your earlier post. A perfect example of what you say is that we have had to start using termed wars to build a warchest to afford the real wars, too. I guess the issue is that the financial benefit will always be better for terming wars unless the winner can do so without needing to spend money. At least while we keep rewards limited to individual wars and not a ladder system that rewards long term success.
How do you see this making it harder to run pure cache farms? If the matches are more even, we're likely to see even more cache farms match cache farms, so terms alll year long.
