I am currently self learning python (at 36 years young) through a free provider that is certified and providers certificates at the end, I am also looking at working as a programmer in python ( for a change of career from working for self in a different sector) and know I will need a portfolio to achieve this what places are good to host a portfolio on that I could use as a place to showcase my portfolio that would enable me to showcase my understanding of python I am aware of GitHub but feel like a more sleek and professional hosted website would appear more professional as it could host a number of projects and make them more interactive any advice from experienced programmes on this would be much appreciated.

to be honest, the most sleek and professional looking portfolio might be hosting your own server and running a web site on it. rather than finding a site providor
Honestly, very few recruiters will go further than checking a GitHub. As a programmer, you'll work with GitHub, so it's not just about the project itself, it's also about how you organize your GitHub projects.
I haven't heard anyone carrying about a fancy website. What is most important is his your project brings value.
