I feel like specifically for property airstrip and private jets there should be an option to tell the pilot to turn around and head back. I mean, if it's your personal private plane, can't you make last minute changes to schedule? It should take the same amount of time as current time traveled to go back to your previous location. There should definitely be a cap on it (I'm thinking only 1 turn around per flight) to prevent players from being in a flight loop indefinitely.

Current suggestion with community feedback:

Color Code:

Base Feature

Preferred Implementation

Other Community Suggestions

  • Ability to ask pilot to turn around to previous location
  • Takes same amount of time as currently traveled
  • Limited to 1 turn around per flight
  • For property airships/private jets, not any "shared" flights
  • Point of no return (2 current possibilities)

             1. Limited fuel per flight and if you turn around past that you crash and burn (Suggestion by Salvia)

      • Salvia wishes for a confirmation warning before you turn around letting you know you will crash
    •
      • I think it would be fun for the fuel system to be based on RNG and there's a higher risk with turning around the further you go, and don't know whether you will crash or not
    •
      • Example of crashing mechanic: You ran out of fuel when attempting to turn the plane around, but locals in [Country] brought you to the nearest hospital for Xh XXm XXs and kept $XXX,XXX of the money you were carrying as compensation. XX:XX:XX
        • I want to ensure this feature is risky so taking a percentage of the money you're carrying would add to that, and after a plane crash I think you should be hospitalized for a good some hours

             2. Pilot refuses past a certain distance and you continue your trip as normal (Suggestion by LuigiMangione)

  • 24hour cap to this feature (3 current possibilities)
    1. Total travel ban for 24 hours, pilots are unhappy you caused a disturbance to schedule and refuse to fly for 24 hours (Suggestion by ExarionThar)
    2. Unable to turn around for 24 hours, still able to fly but pilots are unwilling to put up with any more shenanigans
    3. If you cause a crash, pilots refuse to fly for 24h after getting out of the hospital (assuming the pilot also took this long to recover before warning other pilots)

  • Alternately, you go through air traffic control instead of it being the pilot's decision (Suggestion by Sanxion)
    1. Turn around is either immediately approved, delayed approved, or denied

  • Alternatively, you need an education requirement to unlock ability to hijack a plane (Suggestion by Max2020)
    1. Unlocks ability to turn around and also being able to fly to nearby countries without first returning to Torn

  • Total plane destruction (Suggestion by Ranelio)
    1. Player must purchase new plane after crashing
    2. This would limit the feature for those renting PI's, only planes that are owned by the player can turn around

Definitely not a top priority suggestion but the amount of times I've flown 2-3 hours somewhere only for my brain to mysteriously turn into soup and forget to make a purchase is quite embarrassing and being able to fix my mistake before flying another 2-3 hours all the way back to Torn and another 2-3 hours back overseas would be great. Also helpful in the case of taking a flight and then realizing you're needed back in Torn for some emergency reason and being able to tell the pilot to turn that baby around, your people need ya!

The $1 Incident

Soooo... Someone was pretty upset by me including the feedback of others on this post.

01:39:56 - 01/09/26 You were sent $1 from someone with the message: Your fly back suggestion was good until you polluted it with countless reasons NOT to upvote it. Nice work, you ruined a good suggestion.

Just wanted to include as many possibilities of it as I could for inspiration when implementing the idea (if it gets implemented). I do not expect EVERY single suggestion to be added, they're just versions of the idea that the community has spoken up about wanting. I wanted to compile them all in the post rather than being lost to the pages of me bumping this thread. I personally would love the limited fuel and crashing mechanic so I put it at the top with the most detailed example. The suggestions afterwards are all other possibilities of how the general "turn around" feature could be implemented other than crashing and burning, which not everyone is a fan of. To help clarify this I've decided to highlight the bulleted list in pretty colors and organize the post a bit better :)

Another example: Just hopped on a plane to South Africa after completing Duke's Penelope mission. Forgot to reequip my melee item before boarding but realized 3 minutes into the flight. I could tell the captain, "So sorry man but I don't want to travel abroad defenseless I gotta go back for my knife! 3 minutes to turn around, and then no more interruptions, I promise." Especially because someone just placed a 5mil bounty on a low stat player hiding out where I'm headed!

If this feature doesn't get implemented or until it does I'll just have to do the old fashioned tactic of slapping a sticky note on my computer that reads "HEY THERE TRAVELER! Before you depart, do you have everything you could ever possibly need for the flight? Before you head home, did you purchase all your items?" to assist in my scatterbrainedness

Salvia [279547]

Add in a point of no return. Past a certain point you will not have enough fuel for the return trip and crash. Add a confirmation button that says something like "Are you sure you want to return? You do not have enough fuel for the return trip and will crash". Could be useful for those who need to turtle. Have the countdown trip timer continue to countdown so you can't pause your travel indefinitely.

If you read my post, definitely not suggesting infinite airtime. And I enjoy Salvia's suggestion that there should be a limit to how much fuel you have, so if you turn around too late you won't have enough to head back and crash. This mechanic would only allow for quick trips (I'm thinking under 1/3 of one-way travel time) back to the previous location and only one per flight. But if the hospitalization time for crashing is long enough, that could help you in evading your assassins.

Now that we're getting travel 2.0 I think this would be an amazing feature! It might be too late to include if not already and it would be so awesome if I somehow predicted this

LuigiMangione [1870934]

Instead of running out of fuel and crashing past a point of no return, your pilot should just refuse to turn back out of self-preservation.
