EDIT: maybe the above are people, like me, who responded to the ban with incomplete information, who would gladly put their signs down once all of the facts are collected, but will rightly maintain their views on censorship in general. Censorship is a heavy artillery gun and content moderators shoulder the outsized burden of responsibility for knowing when it's right to actually pull the trigger.

Not mixed views. I agree with a ban, but probably not a permanent one (unless there's a long track record of hate speech). There IS a fine line between trolling and hate speech, and I don't envy what you're trying to accomplish one bit. It's a tough existence that I empathize with.
I lead content moderation and policy teams and for a living, and while I agree some of the trolling is distasteful, heavy-handedness doesn't work well.
I do need to qualify that I celebrate Pride Month wholeheartedly. I've chaired diversity councils for the companies I've worked at for over a decade. I've hired and promoted people who are different from me (white, heterosexual male) because people's identities, and who they love and share lives with are none of my business, nor a reason to oppress and restrict their right for equality.
But maybe there's a more elegant path forward here, maybe more specificity and distinction between trolling and legitimate hate speech. I don't know the answer, bogie.
Happy to take this down or grave it if you want. I understand it could be misconstrued as a bad look, or condoning bigotry, and that's not what this is. It's an allergic reaction to censorship.
The elegant path here is not to defend bigots especially when its clear they aren't trolling given they apparently continued it in your faction chats. Diminishing hatred as "trolling" in my view just puts you in the same boat as them.
I didn't see the action in faction chats, so I can't speak about that. I'm also not defending Wargasm. I'm protesting heavy-handedness.
I never diminished hate speech as trolling; perhaps you should re-read what I wrote. I said there was a fine, and often blurred line. I also empathized from experience that your staff have a difficult job determining what to take down and what to leave up.
Lastly, I resent the implication that I am "in the same boat", and your speed to judgment of me highlights my very point.
"When you stare into the abyss, the abyss stares back at you", when you immerse yourself in fighting monsters, you risk becoming what you oppose. Your speed to conclude I am in the "same boat" as bigots is adjacent to the hate speech you so honorably try to eliminate. You know nothing about me or my personal views, and knowing that, I tried to qualify them to avoid this exact ignorance in judgment.
But you ignored that.
Why are you making a post at all then if you aren't familiar with the facts? You eagarly leapt into the same boat without knowing this so you cannot be upset at that implication in my opinion.
I can absolutely be upset about that implication. You're justifying your assertion that I am a bigot, or a bigot defender with incomplete information and saying "well, that's the bite you need to swallow as punishment for speaking up prematurely about your perspective on censorship". That's a little hypocritical, no? You're alright to jump to a conclusion, but I'm not?
I won't distract from the salient point you made, however; I'll gladly wear that responsibility and apologize for reacting without full context and all the facts, bogie. I should not have made a thread, regardless of my right to feel certain ways about the topic of censorship in general (this circumstance notwithstanding).
...but I'm not a bigot, and it's clumsy, and in poor form to be cast in that way by the very person who's responsible for maintaining respect and dignity for the community who just finished making a point about reacting on incomplete information.
