Quantum immortality is a thought experiment suggesting that if the "many-worlds or multiverse" interpretation of quantum mechanics is true, then a conscious being can never truly die. It is a purely theoretical and philosophical concept it's one of those where the more you think about it the more timelines you create with different outcomes, but your consciousness will always chose the path of life. Which begs the question. Is death the end or does our consciousness choose the path of life and keep on going? Hmm 🤔

P.s. I know this is the paranormal section but quantum immortality would explain why we have ghosts 🙂

Blessed be 🙏

I'm of the opinion that we are every version of ourselves at the same time, but our consciousness follows the path of least resistance which is what electricity does. If we are every version of who we could be then every decision we make is the right decision to us, but if we were watching ourselves make that decision from an outsider perspective it would be wrong to every other version of us watching. Quantum entanglement = quantum immortality = Mind melting rabbit holes lol 😁

I don't believe that humans are their consciousness, but rather their will. Consciousness is formed every day and dies every night and then a new one is formed, so even if it were to be immortal it would not be you but at most an aspect of you, i personally believe that consciousness is just an evolutionary limitation(or advantage) that we life forms formed to increase the chances of our survival and it is nothing more than this, just a tool. In reality we are a willful meat machine.

TartanSpartan [3135704]

Yes I concur to a certain degree where you see it as something that formed to increase our survivability rate and see it as limitation/advantage, I see consciousness like this: Every person I see is another version of me in my perceived reality, including this conversation and yourself. I think I'm conversing with a different person but theoretically I'm talking to another part of my consciousness that's not to say you don't exist because you do, you exist in your perceived reality with me as a part of the same consciousness.

The limitations are with the human body because we only know 2 things are certain we live and we die, but what if our consciousness shifts when we breathe our last breath. We die in the physical form but we (our soul) transcend and become part of the living universe as we were before conception/birth, breaking free of our physical limitations and returning to the collective consciousness.

Blessed be 🙏🙂

Idk if its related or not, but sometimes i feel like im real and others are not, why? cause i can perceive what i see myself but i cant on theirs > more or less mindset that they are robots/not real etc had this thought always when i was a kid

but thats an interesting way of thought too!

TartanSpartan [3135704]

What you are seeing is every version of yourself old, young, black, white, poor, rich. Remember the spoon scene in the Matrix you are the one who bends and there is no spoon, now apply that to real life. The people you see irl are not different people, they are every version of you living each with their own consciousness and unaware that they are you. Quantum Entanglement is a head f*ck lol

Blessed be 🙏🙂

Personally I think it makes sense for us to stop thinking about consciousness as something in the universe, and rather consider the universe as something in consciousness.  The way the universe comes to be strongly supports this.

Of course there is the argument that it comes from a brain. Though the size and complexity of the brain required for consciousness is largely up for debate. Not to mention memories being stored in the gut. They still can't explain how the brain produces consciousness and I think it's because consciousness is already everywhere, and the brain is a mechanism for tapping into it individually. Like our own radio receiver for thought wave lengths.

The truth is likely much more complex than either "the brain is a receiver" or "the brain makes consciousness." But beyond the brain, the universe displays consciousness and intelligent design.

Though I don't prescribe to religion, I'm writing a book on metaphysics which arguably proves a conscious god, where god is defined as the sum of all things. This summary does nothing to explain the concept so no point pulling it apart.

TheQu [2800595]

Consciousness itself is mandatory to reality. Be or not to be, on a fundamental, quantuminformation level means, there can only be SOMEthing if there is "a part" of" "IT" noticing that there is SOMEthing. In fact its not any part at all, its in a way NOthing and Everything at once, which is noticing SOMEthing. So the moment there is any form, existence itself is only possible if there is awareness of it, its part of it. We are all this primary attribute to reality, having unique human experiences. But also any stone or any electron or positron are entangled with consciousness and a fractal reflection of it. The difference of a stone and a human BEING is, that a stone merely is in existence, while some of us humans make it to a level of "existance", a stance of existing which is selfaware. Yet when i look at people out there, most of them seem to be stonelike zombies.. :D

Everything about the design of life revolves around senses. Senses allow us to perceive the environment. Each of our perceptions are 100% unique in that one space cannot be occupied by two particles at one time. Thus it is impossible for two lifeforms to share exactly the same perspective. Not even your own eyes can do that. Nor can your tongue and ears share the same perspective, even when living through the same experience.

This is fundamental to the design of existence. Life is created specifically to experience existence. The core currency of existence is unique experience. The entirety of the universe (material and immaterial) is designed with fundamental, unbreakable (but bendable) laws which ensure the continuity of diversity eternally.

Yes, continuity of diversity. All fundamental laws can have logical paradox.  And in trying to disprove each law, you envoke the law you try to disprove.

The book I'm writing is focused on these laws. What they are, an attempt to disprove each, our history of their application to all things human, material, immaterial and even how god (as the sum of all things) adheres to them; how they are useful to you, and finally an  exploration into their weirdest applications (AI, light, paradox, how god is benevolent and indifferent and can not be one without being the other, the origin of thr universe.)

Can't wait to get more time to work on it.

BalSotha [3954010]

I think the will is beyond our immaterial world(whatever it is), the immaterial world is where consciousness is formed, and then consciousness is beyond the material world. So what you say can be correct, while what i say is also correct.

Something can be mandatory for us to exist, but it wouldn't necessarily be the end all and be all of all things.

Just the fact that you see every conscious being is not truly "selfaware" or, as i say, 'willful' proves my point, will which is unconscious define us as beings, not our consciousness.

Another way to look at it is that We are forms of life, lifeforms, like machines, consciousness is a part of the machine(the entirety of the machine doesn't have to be physical), and what truly makes us alive is our will of life.

So ive spent a good 8 years wondering about this theory. Read a ton up on it. When I used to party I took some really powerful mushrooms and fell down this rabbit hole. Like what if when you die you just wake up in a different reality where things happened differently that day and thats why you get deja vu. Its alot. There are real studies done on this subject as well.

American_God [4089813]

We are firing up a 1 million quibit supercomputer this year, the year of the singularity. That alone makes this true, it's just the units of consciousness (us) have to choose that reality, or forever remain NPC.

Quantum immortality states essentially that from an observer's perspective, they must continue to exist in a world where they can observe.  In other words, it's the observation selection effect in a quantum physics flavor.

Suppose you were playing Russian Roulette in the real world (don't do this).   Suppose instead of a normal game, you played it with three chambers full, three empty, so every round is a coin flip (don't do this), spinning the cylinder in between.

Quantum immortality states you'll always get an empty chamber from your own perspective, because in  those worlds where you got an occupied chamber, you ceased to observe.

Since you are still observing, you must have been in one of the universes where the chamber was empty.

Suppose every chamber was full (don't do this).  You'll find that you were in a world where the bullet was a dud, or at the last minute an owl flapped in through the window and snatched the gun out of your hand, or that some event, however improbably, prevented the gun from killing you because... again..  you continue to observe.

Which sounds neat, until you really start to consider the implications of this idea.

First off, all that is required is that you continue to observe.  Meaning, quality of life is not an issue.  Merely that you continue to observe.

So, back to that Russian Roulette game.  Maybe the gun does go off, but you sneeze at the last second, and it blows your jaw off.  Now you're drinking soup through a straw for the rest of your life...  but as long as you continue to observe, that's fine.

Or you get old.   Really old.  Super duper old.   You can't eat anything but Jell-O.  You've broken your hip and you're in chronic pain.  You're incontinent and need to be changed three times per day.  You're two hundred years old, scientists can't figure it out, but for some reason you just...  don't die.

Quantum immortality is a doorway to hell.  Fortunately, it's bunk.   More than 100 billion people have ever lived, and the vast majority of them are dead as doornails.  You're not special.

If consciousness always "chooses" the survival timeline, then consciousness must be something separate from the physical processes that create it. But what if consciousness is actually an emergent pattern created by the motion and arrangement of particles throughout the brain?

Every thought, memory, and sensation arises from trillions of particles interacting according to physical laws. The brain is not a single object but a constantly changing flow of matter and energy. At any given moment, atoms are entering and leaving your body, neurons are firing, and information is being reorganized.

In this view, consciousness isn't a traveler moving between universes. It is a temporary pattern formed by particles in motion, much like a whirlpool is a pattern formed by moving water. The whirlpool appears stable, but the water composing it is constantly changing.

If the universe itself is a vast network of interacting particles, then your consciousness may be connected to the cosmos not because it jumps timelines, but because it is literally made from the same physical processes that govern stars, galaxies, and quantum fields. The "self" is a localized expression of a universal process.

When death occurs, the particles do not disappear. The energy does not vanish. The information encoded in the exact arrangement of the brain, however, may disperse beyond recovery. The universe continues, but the specific pattern that constituted "you" dissolves back into the larger system.

Under this theory, quantum immortality may feel compelling because the mind cannot directly experience its own nonexistence. Every experience you ever have is one in which you are alive. But that does not necessarily imply that consciousness is hopping to a surviving branch of the multiverse. It may simply reflect a limitation of subjective observation.
