Not sure why this isn’t bigger news but the fact that there has been 2 cases of screwworm in calf’s in Zavala County is absolutely insane .. if you know you know. If you don’t know, then there is a very high chance that a majority of cattle in Texas will be dead and billions of dollars lost. Texas and their farmers will need billions in relief.
Let’s say only 100 flies got in and laid their eggs, in 18 days, 100 flies turns into 225,000,000.. and that’s a low estimate. If every model that has been tested is true, several millions cows will be dead in the next month and Texas farming exports will be completely shut down (Canada has already stopped any shipments from Texas)
If you’re a beef eater, stock up now lol. If you’re a farmer, I am praying for you.

KERRVILLE, Texas -- Two more cases of the New World screwworm have been confirmed in Texas, demonstrating the difficulty of stopping the spread of a pest that could potentially devastate the nation's cattle industry, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced Monday.
The screwworm is actually a fly, which produces a larva that eats live flesh instead of dead material.
Females lay their eggs in open wounds of any warm-blooded animal such as cattle, but wildlife, pets and occasionally even humans can be infested.
The USDA said the new cases were found in a calf and a dog, hundreds of miles apart in La Salle and Andrews counties.
That brings the total number of confirmed cases to four.
The screwworm was first discovered in a 3-week-old calf last week, and a second case was found only miles away in a young calf.

It is a straightforward answer but it was only cheap when the eradication line was the narrow area in Panama. Treating the whole southern border will require spinning up many more facilities and be much more expensive, while still obviously far better than allowing it to remain
Republicans are trying their best to push the blame for the resurgence of the flesh-eating New World screwworm on former President Joe Biden—even though it was their current boss who cut funding for the monitoring program.
“Under the last administration with the massive movement under the open borders policy that the cartels, etcetera, border security, that’s when it began to make its way back up toward America, hitting Mexico in early 2023, moving its way up through Mexico in 2024,” Agriculture Secretary Rollins said Monday morning on CNBC, claiming that Biden’s immigration policy was the direct cause of the screwworm reinfestation.
“This is another thing we can thank Joe Biden for,” Senator Roger Marshall told NewsMax. “That when millions of people came out of Central America, they brought this screwworm with them. It was on their pets, maybe on their flesh as well.”
This is pretty shameless, given Trump has been in office for over 500 days and specifically cut the program that handled this very problem.
“The Trump Admin cut funding for screwworm detection and fired 25% of staff responsible for tracking the disease,” Ohio Representative Shontel Brown wrote on X, in response to Rollins. “I’m embarrassed for the Secretary that her only answer is to blame the administration that left office a year and a half ago.”
The return of the screwworm—first eradicated in 1966—has also thrown beef safety into limbo, as the screwworm’s presence could tighten the supply and raise already high prices even higher.
