I can confirm, the merc bill you you refer to is not correct. Wont go into exacts though as that is between us and the mercs.
But to answer your question. Yes. mercs are 100% worth it. Its rare enough we get wars that are incredibly close like this. Might be once or twice a year. I was willing to burn a bit of faction money to cover our losses if we were to lose. For me, even losing it would have been worth the expenses.
Its a culture thing though. We do not term anyways, so we always accept we wont make max profits. For this one, we also will subsidice some of the expenses to members to give something back.
Imo, the real question is, why have all the money and funds in the faction if we would be scared to use it when the opportunity presents itself?
Arguably in this economy the players have created and ched has facilitated, any and all war expenses are not worth it, we should all be farming and doing fake wars. Arguably doing real wars is stupid and the incorrect decision.
To the small minority who do real wars then obviously the cost is worth it, when wars go long if you blinked and balked over expenses then you didn't deserve the win anyway.
Frankly, if players spends hours and hours online grafting to win and their leadership quits cos it got a little pricey they're an embarrassment, you should have quit half way through and saved the bother.
Its not sunk-cost, its a two way relationship between a faction and its members that I think is pretty unique to factions who do real wars. If its a close war, a faction expects its members to step up, just like the members expect their faction to cough up.
100% worth it. The whole reason I left a faction I liked a lot to join HAKA was to get to fight wars like this.
Xanax is cheap, cans are a ripoff, and gear is only worth buying if you intend to fight real wars anyway.
Fight a war.. Yes it was my reason, I want to fight in war's. It is not "worth of money", it is worth of fight.
Yes, I like fight... Even when we lose. When we lose, we give value to victory. We give joy to the winners. It is better to win faction who try to win.
I am all ways ready to loose...That is only way to win real fight.
While I'm a little biased, it's also nice that Haka keeps merc costs in the family, not just so that the money is redistributed among fam, but also it means that all three of our factions were deeply engaged in this war. It's a huge bonding experience for us all to be watching their pushes for opportunities to snipe, chatting about strategy, attacking each other, seeing our builds and loadouts up close. I think ODB and BS mercs came out of this with huge appreciation for the way Haka fights and how many strong members they have with great builds and loadouts (i.e. so many losses from us haha).
And while the costs look high, many of us who were mercing were having to use needles and cans to keep up with it, so when you consider that and e costs in general, maybe 1/3 of the bill was profit to the mercs, quite a low payday for in some cases hours of stalking them. I definitely felt like I had a four day war myself last weekend, but I enjoyed every moment of it.
